hello :)

massive massive thanks to everybody who posted to help push this issue forward....

last week Radio1 launched the iPlayer as the new system to playback the shows..
you now can rewind of fast forward to the exact spot you want in the show.. and also the sound quality appears to be much crisper...

there are a few teething problems with it.. problems getting the hot-links to fire, which they are working on right now..

but you can access the show direct from here:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
search Mary Anne Hobbs

this is only available in the UK, because it's the UK listeners that pay the licence fee, so elsewhere in the world, you are stuck with the Real Player..

just out of interest - if you pay a licence fee - 0.6p of that money goes to pay for the whole of Radio1 every year from your wallet.. so it's pretty afforadble...

please please use the iPlayer.. it's the single most important way that the BBC will determine the success of the shows..

thank you again for all your input in this.. i would be keen to hear your views on how it works for you...

give it a little time to bed in..

much love
m/a.. x

I listened to your show Today in work on it... Much, much better! Finally, a constant bit stream, not sure how high, but a lot better than the 50/60kbs I was getting off the old one! Sounded great!

Splendid, splendid news. Sincerely hope that this gives the bean-counters the concrete evidence of how people are about this music and your show, Mary Anne!

Good work.

And tell whoever's in charge of 1Xtra to sort themselves out and get a dubstep show on there.

c'mon bbc, sort it out and get the international license for ALL the shows! I'm not really planning to emigrate to the UK...

the player is a true upgrade, tho!

the point is that we in the UK pay a licence fee for TV and radio every year so we get a better service for it. i'm not saying that i agree with that but i can understand the reasoning behind it. does the realplayer not work for out of UK people as MAH said then?

Ah this is a massive improvement! I really disliked the old player and it even put me off bothering to listen back to some shows due to the poor quality sound. Added to the fact you couldn't scan through properly or rewind at all. Well done BBC, step forward
