"Forget about this," she says, "it's for interest only."

Big hero of mine, and her music is great for mixing into dubstep.

Good stuff indeed, synth free electronic music...Dubstep started in croydon 2000s? hmmm me thinks a rethink is needed, Maida vale 1960s is the start of it.. (All it needs is an intensive snare..)

Peace

I highly doubt it, she herself said "forget about this, its only for interest". Besides beats like that were incredibly difficult to create back then, hence it taking a woman whos job it was to create weird and wacky music to make it!

big thanks to 'on the rise' for posting this...as it says she's not actually the composer, more like the producer of the dr. who theme....

over 200 unheard tapes ! ? can't believe they only just announced this.

Radiophonic workshop is an amazing testament to the open minded nature of the BBC and general British public of the time -

must have been day to day situations like -

"right, we need an intro tune for the new Tutankhamun documentary - get the radiophonic people on the case"

"ah its done. what does it sound like ? surreal, processed, dissonant and bleepy - perfect ! - lets get it on air"

(Delia's Tutankhamun music is sick btw)

even further back in the lineage of ladies in electronics is Bebe Barron who created the soundtrack for 'Forbidden Planet' with her husband Louis. 1956 ! check it out (there's a couple of excerpts on my July mix...)

Love that old electronic music. Raymond Scott's Manhattan Research is a lot of fun, too.

I wish that a certain album had come out when it was supposed to.
