Yeah, i'm pretty excited about this. Only graphic novel i have really read, hoping i will never have to experience the outrage loads of people seem to be showing to the rest of the movies adapted from Moore stuff (i actually liked From Hell, but i've never read the comic), but it does look fairly true to it. Would be awesome if they kept the whole cold war thing too, but i doubt they will.

Nice obscure smashing pumpkins track too, those tunes were too good to be wasted on the batman and robin movie.

Looks great, didn't like the song they put to it though, Billy Corrigan i think. The shot of the Giant Dr Manhattan blowing up the Vietnamese villager :o

Is Moore allowing them to put his name to this? I heard he was boycottin any future hollywood interpretations after V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Can't see the trailer yet as im at work unfortunately :(.

Surely they have to keep the cold war stuff in, thats what the comics about pretty much?

Hope this comes out well, not a brilliant track record for comic interpretations atm. Such a travesty what they did to Hellblazer (constantine)

good interview with Moore here http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213004,00.html

It seems he's not interested in watching it at all, and has rather negative views of 300 (despite never watching it!). And he loves the wire :D

He writes quite a lot of things. Couple of the x-men films for instance, i would most definitely say most of his talent lies in voice acting though, snake's voice is unforgettable.

wow, what a good read, cheers mate, you saved my working saturday from being completely fruitless

can't wait to check out that Jerusalem book now

also he confirms what ive been thinking recently that it would be amazing if HBO took up the mantle of adapting some graphic novel series. The multiple hour-long episode thing would work a lot better in displaying the timescale and pacing of the major graphic novel series, and they seem to have a good track record for allowing artists to pursue their own agendas. Imagine how good an HBO serialisation of Preacher or Hellblazer could be...

This is true, but financing the special effects for a 12-hour endeavor is something I don't realistically seeing HBO as having the money for until either 1) they have a lot more money to burn or 2) the costs of generating special effects go down. One thing you notice about alot of the serial shows on HBO or Showtime is that none of them are necessarily the visual feasts that you would need for a good superhero story.

Maybe one day though

I am still hoping for a series based on the Invisibles..I think the BBC bought the rights a while back. Sandman would also be fantastic.

I remember hearing rumours of Preacher being made into a series as well.

that interview is a really good read. i can't imagine how frustrating it must be as an artist trying to maintain some semblance of integrity in the holywood environment. No wonder the guy has abandoned these projects. its pretty sad studios are so bloody minded as to disregard the wishes of the original authors, what reasoning can truly justify that? the only and obvious explanation is that they think things need changing to become more palatable thus generating more money. this level of horribleness is only matched by the fact that people continue to lap it up.

love the watchmen tho. watched the trailer afew times now and it really does look great. I wasn't a fan of 300 but I have high hopes for this :D I can't see them editing out the cold-war setting and the political overtones while maintaining any pretence of doing the source material any justice at all. having said that though I felt V For Vendetta was pretty watered down, but not as bad as many ppl seemed to make out. I think one of the biggest challenges for the Watchmen production will be getting the timeline issues across. as moore says: "There are things that we did with Watchmen that could only work in a comic, and were indeed designed to show off things that other media can't"

i really like the idea of a preacher series!

yes! in an ideal world... but i think parts of it would be pretty much unfilmable. tackling the great variation of visual styles is also a massive undertaking. and who could honestly do justice to playing morpheus.

some things are definately better left untouched.

btw if anyone has US i tunes then you can d/l the first of 12 animated webisodes:

'At some point Warners also released the premiere episode of the Watchmen motion comic to iTunes, where initially they will be a free download but will cost $1.99 starting August 1st. The episode was the first of 12 that will parallel each of the issues of the original comic series by animating the actual panels drawn by Watchmen illustrator Dave Gibbons. WB hopes the motion comic will help build buzz for the film.'
