What they like, I'm taking a gap year to save up for the first year at uni (2K Fee. + I'll live at home.)

I don't really have a clue about agencys and what not and i don't want to work as a sales assistant. Someone give me some insight please and i'll give you some e-luvvvvvvvvvvv back .

they promise to ring you back but never do, however they are good for getting work, just keep chasing them up if they dont call back etc

also good for getting mon- fri 9-5 work if you want to keep wknds free

Yeah 9-5 would be best suited, im not that fussed about pay as long as its over 6 quid, i dont really have any expierence apart from bar work + superdrug ha, really confused about it all, wish i knew how to go round it

A lot of temping jobs can be mind numbingly dull in my experience. Often you won't get holiday pay and your hours might be irregular too. Best thing to do is go and speak to a few, but be warned, once they've got your details, they'll be phoning all the time with all manner of shitty jobs.

Personally, I'd recommend labouring, especially this time of year. You can be out in the sun all day and it's usually a good laugh.

A lot of jobs now require that you go through an agency. Any office or factory work definately (at least round here). Its not good though as you basically have no workers rights. Your hired and fired on a daily basis. It means that they can get rid of you whenever they want. It also means you can quit whenever you want but then you wont get any work with them. Also, the wage they pay you is always less then what the full time peeps are on and they take about £10 an hour for every hour you work.

I'm not a fan.

Call centre would be ideal, just not sales assistant again that was awful! My uncle owns an agency in leeds so i'll send him an email most likely

Not too fussed about no holiday pay tho, would be a bonus!

i did the same as you took a gap year and worked for a temping agency (now coming to an end).

Started working for Adecco- working for RBS Insurance real boring office work - paid 7 quid an hour where other temps were getting paid 7.50 and getting all their tax back but I wasn't able to because I wasn't in a group so couldn't complain like they did. Anyway, I was asked to leave for being late a couple of times but I'm glad I was in the end.

Since January been working for a different temping agency. More amicable than adecco (which I don't recommend) but I can safely say I never want to go through temping agencies again, as it is normally quite mundane tasks they set you which get boring very quickly, very little holiday pay and they take a ridiculous amount of your salary- I get paid 5.50 or soemthing an hour after taxes which is so so shit. I was getting paid more when I was working at Sainsbury's ffs. I'd recommend some sort of retail work. Leeds has plenty of cool shops.

If you work in a call centre, you'll soon miss being a sales assistant believe me.

Being a sales assistant was horrible for me, when working at the pub at least i knew everyone coming in. Superdrug has put me off for life and i would rather work sat down for a year. Hmmm i dislike this.

After working in said postroom for near 2 and a half years, I got a job working in the production dept. doing magazine layout and I have just left there after 2.5 years to get a job at another publishing house getting paid the same as designers with degree's. I have not one sinlge qualification to my name

I've been using a temping agency on and off for the past 3 years or so inbetween doing stuff like travelling and applying for uni. the work and the money definitely suited me for that kind of lifestyle.

as a londoner it's workin in the city so the wage is rarely less than 8 pounds an hour plus you actually feel like you're gaining skills which will make you more employable in the future, unlike working in retail where you hit the wage ceiling reltively fast and can rarely break beyond a managers salary.

for example my first temping jobs were working in mail rooms which is like the 'entry level' that they throw you in at, but having gained lots of experience from that and many other positions I was given a semi-permanent job as part of a 2 person admin department for a medical society which paid 10 pounds an hour. I worked there for 6 months and, had i wanted to stay on/not been going to uni, I would still be working there now permanently, employed directly by the Society itself and not the temping agency and therefore getting paid a whole lot more.

Cheers Kins. Not saying it will work for everybody but I guess I was one of the fortunate ones.

Good if you don't know what you want to do, just keep trying different stuff until you find one thats right.

i know my agency gets paid for every interview i attend..and they got bonuses for every time i accept a position.

they constantly harrass me into going for shit jobs that they and i know are a waste of time.

i signed up to 4 at the start and now only deal with 1.

and remember, you dont owe them shit. they work for you.
