Anyone Still Making That 2005 Style Dubstep?

Post by corpsey » Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:44 pm

Been listening to stuff like Mark One - Mean Fiddler and Cyrus - Paradise Dub today. And of course tunes like 'Conference' also.

I'm well into my deep stuff at the moment obviously but is there producers making stuff as raw and stripped down on this (not wobbly metal shite, please)?

If not recommend me some old tunes I might have missed, preferably that you can still buy.

Spherix on that tip on SOME songs aswell -

www.myspace.com/spherixaudio

D1 always on that vibe i reckon.
I reckon Headhunter aswell.
Ramadanman

im doin this myself but obviously with shit production standards...

there's more aswell! some of Rob Sparks shit...
benny Page? Breakage? Krypric minds...
I reckon TRG on some flexs
as well as soem Martyn shit.
RSD sometimes??

EASY. would love to here more suggestions...

EDIT: i know not all of these will be what your looking for.. and most of them make a lot of different styles - but thats a plus point really...

I also heard of two guys called Breathe beats and Cookin Monsta?? :P jokes.

That Spherix guy is sick, the other myspace link doesn't work for me though...

Problem with what I'm asking is this style is so easy to do in a boring way... it's good that dubstep moved on from it obviously but I dunno there's something gritty about those tunes from that time

Everything now sounds like it's been given a bubble bath by an apple Mac

what about the older rossi b & luca stuff on ARMY. As well Virgo & Davinche. I found the riffs simple but effective.

Yeah you know that! pretty much my thoughts - i look back at the record i've recently bought to my old ones - and im just like , DAMN they were much better...

you wouldn't ever see benga make owt like Killas about/Comb 60s now...

just gritty bassy - good shit

Skream & Loefah 28g/Fearless :o :o :o favorite 12 Ever...

i'm more on about 2006 i think than 2005 cos i was only 12 in 2005 :P - dint know bout dubstep then got into it mid 06 he he but im guessin the sounds are pretty much the same

I heard dubstep first in 05', and tbh, I really didn't like it a much. But I still wanted to give it a change, as it was a new style, and listened to some mixes now and then. When I found out that it was from 2step, I got more interested because I'v always liked garage.

I started to focus on older/uptempo/garagey dubstep. But only recently I'v really understanded the 05' sound listening to Youngsta's Rinse sets.

And I agree that this kind of dubstep is easy to be made wrong. There's been alot of talking about faux darkness, but I find that there's also alot of faux deepnes going on too... Alot of people makes minimal (not meaning mnml here) stuff without a real content, and then calls it deep. Although being minimal, 05' style takes skill to be made right!

I also like the grittynes of this sound mentioned here. The problem with today's deep/minimal/non-jumpup dubstep is that it's just way too sophisticated. What I like about 05' style, is that deep yet gritty feel!

I love the 2005 sound, it's my favourite period next to the early dark 2step stuff.

Joe Nice's Lost Dubs show from last year is still on repeat. So many amazing tunes from 04-05 on that one.
