How do i make my wobbles better?????????

Post by -dubson- » Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:42 pm

In reason 4 i've been using Malstrom and getting some decent wobble sounds, but now i've used it can't get anything really good which doesnt sound the same!

So what do i need? Thor, Subtractor, effects? I want a sort of Caspa sound like Noise Disorganiser, or the one that goes 'Please i swear, sometimes were living on different planets...........ect'

Can anyone help???????

Ps. I hear massive is good, is it worth getting, does it work with reason?

Massive is a VSTi which means it only works with compatible hosts like logic, cubase, ableton, fruity loops, etc... Reason is a standalone program, you can route reason into a host, and then you can use things like massive is conjunction with reason, but not routed into it. Read the production bible and the big thread of wobble, should help you out.

There's some good wobble patches for reason in the patches thread too, so try them for learning purposes.

Love xx

-Explore the comb filter settings on the Malstrom. (Modulate these with adsr and lfo's).

-Explore using the Index, Shift & Motion controls on the Malstrom to create movement in your bass patches. (Tie to lfo's & adsr's).

-Explore using the ECF filter within a combinator. (This allows you to easily create resonant filter sweeps). (Also link to adsr's & lfo's).

-Explore using the PEQ2 and M-Class EQ as a notch/bandpass filter. (Link up to lfo's & adsr's, dammit...!!!)

-Explore applying the Scream 4 distortion device as an insert, then a send, then both at the same time. Stack your Scream4 units. (Mal--->Scream 4--->Scream 4---->Linemixer---->Send to Scream 4---->Scream 4----->Insert output of line mixer into a Scream 4---->ECF Filter.)

-Explore using the Malstrom and the Thor as an insert filter, much like the ECF/Scream/EQ's.

-Explore using the M-Class Limiter as an overdrive/saturation device.

-Explore the possibilities of phase distortion when you play two notes a semitone apart.

-Explore the phase controls on the Subtractor.

-Explore creating a bass sound, bouncing it down and reimporting it into Reason in the NN-19 or NN-XT samplers.

-Explore using the Spider Audio Splitter to create frequency split distorted basslines.

-Explore using the Vocoder as an EQ & filter.

-Explore pumping and sidechain compression using the M-Class Compressor.

-Repeat the above process x100

-Bang your head against the wall.

-Repeat the above process x100.

Well done, your now a famous dubstep producer! :)

ain't used reason yet, but massive is soo sick.
get it as a demo for free off the native instruments site - only restriction is you can't save patches and it closes after 30 mins.

and btw massive can be a standalone package, VSTi, RTAS etc..

so get it!

i know but i'm 14 and been producing for like less than a month, so i'm not bothered. You've got to get the basics first right?

You'll make yr wobbles better by learning as much as you can about music composition and studio production. Don't try and learn 'dubstep' 8)

Thor can get some seriously fat-ass wobbles going without too much trouble... spend a couple of hours experimenting with the different filters... on my last tune, I think I ended up sticking it through a low-pass then one of the format filters for a bit of interest... but play around until you get a sound that suits you.
