Hi,
Whats the best way of recording movie samples from something like youtube? I currently use Audacity as my audio editor....

Click record in your audio editor, press play on youtube, wait for the thing to play then edit the sample start & end points to suit.
If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to set your soundcard up correctly.
If you don't know much about that, post the details of what model sound card you have and maybe someone will be able to help you...!

Audacity is the best way, just select Stereo Mix or Mono Mix and record it

i hook my tv up to my amp so the audio plays thru my stereo and then hook my laptop to my amp and record the output from the speakers.

Wouldn't it be easier to record from your soundcard with the DvD or something?

the best way is to use savetube.com
convert the FLV to WAV..
no more added noise.

Do you really want to be using youtube samples? I mean they are probably 96k at best, right(I could be totally wrong here)? Sound forge and a few other apps can rip the audio from avi's which would probably be your best route.

just download a desktop recorder from somewhere like download.com, it'll record whatever is playing through your cpu
