Realistic Claps and Clicks?

I'm sick of using them claps that sound like they've been programmed. Is there any that actually sound like you are clapping? Or clicks/snaphs that sound good? If theres anything you could recommend, then I'd be very grateful. Thanks

i'd never expect anythin 'off the shelf' to sound useable straight away...i always end up putting some EQ/reverb/layering on the case, good EQ'ing can go along way.

i've even recorded claps before (with a condenser mic, this was for a band i was once in) and they sounded like arse until they'd been eq'd and layered.

Picking up different claps and playing them miliseconds apart seems to do part of the job. Plus eq-ing, reverbing, you know.

A couple of years back I stumbled upon some perfect handclap samples that sounded amazing (and they were actually free), but I can't seem to remember where I put them or where I downloaded them from.

The 909 clap is heavy, but I want one that sounds like you are actually clapping your hands, or one that sounds like you are actually clicking your fingers.

There is a website that has tonnes of samples you can search for. It has loads of real recorded hand claps.

I cannot rem the name of it right now at work tho sorry.

I have heard other people on here mention it before, its quite popular.

Just found these on google.

i dont know how many times I wanted the sound of a real life, authentic.... click!

i'd suggest spending some time learning how to program sounds that sound more 'live'... that can probably give you closer to what you really want, and give you more flexibility.

or grab a mic or search through here http://www.freesound.org/searchText.php

really tight delays can help claps and snaps sound natural. 5-20ms, etc. if you're using logic, set up something in delay designer so that you can control pan and pitch as well.

why not sample a clap on a cd you like? im sure you can find an isolated clap somewhere.

Another question but related... why do producers spend so much time fine tuning a snare or clap, when you can just sample one you like already mixed down on a cd or vinyl?

id rather spend time on melody or structure than a snare. Im new to this so go easy on me.

a sampled clap can still take time fine tuning to make it perfect for your track. just because it sounded good on another record, it could still sound a little awkward, just placed into your track with out some fiddling.

its the little things that make a great piece of music

search out house sample packs or record them yourself. :D

The 808 clap does it for me, it compresses very well and fits into a mix with ease.
Native Instruments released two sample packs, the second, Synthetic Drums 2 has a kit designed by Telefon Tel Aviv, this has some of the nicest claps and clicks I've heard by a long shot.
