have you got the manual. i use traktor all the time, dont have any headphones, so when im recording i just arm the cue switch. i know the master section in the middle of the mixer controls the headphones tho, like i say never had to use them. i can link you up with the manual if you dont have it

thanks for the quick response
yup, ive got the manuel, but it doesnt really explain it, just like 'put output x here, etc'
this is my first go at mxing, is it worth using headphones, how do u do it without?

i do sometimes tell myself to go get some but cant be arsed. the big cue button on each deck allows you to hear what is on the opposite deck when crossfader is fully on the side thats playing, but it wont be heard on the recording, which is fine by me really. not sure if that has anything to do with the headphones or not tho, you may want to have a mess about with that

alright, ill keep tinkering, think i saw that you may need two soundcards to have one playing the master, and one playing the moniter(through the headphones), or one soundcrad with 2 outputs...

Hi
you need a soundcard / interface with 2 pairs of stereo outs in order to cue music in the headphones separately. In the settings menu you can specify one pair of outs to 'master' and the other pair to 'cue', then select which deck to cue through the phones from the button on each mixer channel. Voila!

do mixers, as in dj mixers, act as soundcards?
so i could use one instead of the internal mixer in traktor, and plug my headphones into the mixer and not my pc for cueing?
edit: what mixer would you recomend a, behringer vmx100??

I'm not totally clued up on this as I kindof only really know what I use.
I *think* I've recently seen a 'made for traktor/ableton' mixer which incorporates an audio&midi interface, but I can't find the link so you might have to search around for that one. It came pre-built or in kit form for you to build/customise yourself if you're that way inclined. Certainly looked the business!
I use a cheap-ish seperate 4-outs M-Audio Audiophile audio/midi interface and then an independent midi mixer from
Faderfox connected via, erm, midi. Works really well.
