Afternoon all.

I just got paid, and I wanna buy some DJ equipment.

Don't have the money for vinyl and decks, so.. seeing as I've been trading some sick tunes with the folks of this forum, I thought it'd be a good idea to get on the whole digital DJ thing, if anything just so I have something to do when I'm temporarily bored of making beats!

I don't wanna spend too much, could anyone who mixes using MP3s let me know what the best inexpensive equipment would be? I'm talking about 200 quid...

BTW, I'm on about those USB things, so there's still a physical interface but all the shiznit is actually going on on the PC (or mac, in my case)

P.S Yeah, I know if I spend more I'll get a better package but I'm not too bothered. Just wanna be able to mix some tunes and have fun

EZ bro maybe Traktor 3? Have a look on the NI website. Use serato myself so can't comment on what it's like. Hopefully someone here can comment. Big ups on the heavy beats by the way been meaning to hit you up on myspace.

yeah man was just looking and there some nice kit coming out but very pricey, Vestax VCI-300 and Numark NS7 with ITCH by serato. To be honest though i'm sure you could just use the keyboard on the lappy to do most controls for now with something like traktor and save up for something a bit later. Anyone else got any suggestions?

yeah man i agree, im on traktor scratch and id say its well worth savin up and forkin out for decks and the whole package. Im sure thats not what u wanted to hear though, sorry!

id go for traktor, atm i dont have any interface, just all on laptop, having the actaully knobs to use would be a great advantage

haha. yeah. i've actually got decks, albeit old crappy numark ones. i just can't afford vinyl every week, and i need to be able to use the mp3s that producers on here are sending me!

There's also the denon hc 4500 but that'll set you back about a grand.

yeah man thats why i swithced, couldnt afford it, but now spending ridiculous amounts on mp3s every day. Its cool too cos i can play my own beats without havin to get a dub cut, and i dont feel guilty cos im still sort of usin vinyl!
i dont really know of any hardware that doesnt look a bit gimicky and shit im afraid but have a look around.

I use a Faderfox DJ 2 midi mixer with Traktor - works a treat for me, lots of control, solid, compact too.

It isn't a midi/audio interface though so you'll need one of those if you don't already have one

what are people using who post mixes on this forum? (other than vinyl)

is it generally mp3 mixes or are CD decks the weapon of choice??

CD decks seem attractive for the tangibility but it would restrict which tunes you could mix into another, unless you burn 1 track per cd which is quite frankly extortionate,

thoughts?

what would you need midi/audio interface for if you've got the faderfox midi mixer?? :S

im in the same boat mate. i am thinking of getting a hercules mk2 and a m-audio x session mixer. im already running tracktor and virtual dj.

We'll the CD thing you just need two CD's with the same 10-14 tracks on them and you can mix em all into each other . Just duplicates of every CD.

I would suggest buying Serato Scratch Live and using your current decks to control that (this is The major way of mixing other than vinyl atm)

There is Torq Xponent. Might be a little more than you want to spend but I know a couple folks that use these and they love it. I think you can use 3rd party software with it such as Ableton of you would rather. Torq software does the trick tho.

The faderfox is only a 'control surface' - it transmits midi messages from the crossfader, buttons, switches etc. It connects via midi to an interface/synth rather than direct to a computer by usb/firewire.

I got it a few years ago over the Behringer as the reports on the Behringer console weren't that good. Maybe that's improved since?

yeh i use Torq and the Xponent
it does the job fine, but the time stretch isnt the best, quite a few times ive changed tempo by even just 2 bpm and you can hear it skipping slightly now and again

i think that M-audio are fixing that though when the 1.5 version comes out
no idea when that is though...
