A bit more old school, but Peruvian Chicha is sick. Older Cumbia from columbia is great too, not so much into the stuff that sounds like a casio keyboard demo.

dont know about new stuff in colombia, only heard some digital cumbia from mexico, and some of the guys from zizek , like villa diamante o daleduro and bersa discos...in buenos aires
unfortunately im a bit disconected since im living in barça a couple of years a go...
im traying to finish a tune ill post it when ever ready...
nice to know there is non-southamerican ppl interested in thease sounds... its funny couse the real cumbia scene is well related to crime, ingnorance, violence and drugs in some of thease countries, but it still lovely powerfull bass music...speaking about reality, i guess its the same that happens with hip hop, dancehall or grime...but in thease cas i can undertand the lyrics very well...
nice discucion! :D
take care

It sounds a little like reggaeton but the beat is different...

cumbia is fun to dance to. you can use cumbia moves with dubstep.

i mostly like the vintage cumbia from the 60s but ive heard some nice cumbia krunk from texas.

some reggaeton is cumbia influenced. but cumbia is its own thing. has its own shuffle pattern and bassline style. if you slow it down hella, it can have a dubby feel. the accordian melodies are a big part.

rupture is cool. that boston toneburst style from the 90s has a nice dub influence.

always a sure-shot hit at small to medium sized parties i play. i drop some classic Discos Fuentes and people go ape shit. all the cumbia in my set are around 105 BPM though so have not been playing it with dubstep.

re: the crime and ignorance related to the scene in s. american countries... yes i've talked to some people from there who hate the music because of that.

Cumbia seems to be the most exciting thing I've found out here so far. It's alright, innit?!

http://www.zzkrecords.com/

Should be going to my first night next Thurs.

Y si los usuarios de Buenos Aires me pueden recomendar otros boliches y fiestas buenos en esta ciudad...

first of all just whant to mention, cumbia and electronic cumbia are not the same, i dont know any other place than zizek that plays electronic cumbia, its a pitty it was closed for vacations last time i whent home...
now if you whant to have a view of the original scene get down to Metropolis (more known by la metro) in palermo. thats probably the biguest spot.
i remember olso a place called Tropitango in tigre at the north of the city....and El Reventon en el barrio de once... this one i dont know if it still open...

Cool! I'm checking out Zizek soon, and I'll try and find Metropolis sometime soon... I live in Palermo, so this is all easy :-D

I'm gonna listen to your show on Sub FM tonight too, Chorizo boy! Thanks for the tips ;-)
