get yourself some AKGs or some Ultrasones

I've got Beyerdynamic DT990's, and they fucking rule. $250 gets you 5hz-23khz frequency response, which I guarantee is better than anything dre could give you. Love the guy, but an electrical engineer he is not.

cheers for that - yeah been tryin to decide between ultrasone or akg - apparently ultrasone has got the bass kick, but lacks the clarity in the mid an top range that akgs got.

any suggestions? im pretty skint so cant spend too much, but im not gonna get a good pair without forkin out really am i

I was told by a speaker designer that every speaker company lies about what freqs there speakers do.

Best thing to do is test them if you can.

if you really can not use speakers and have to have headphones then get down a shop like Turnkey where you can take your own CD and test all headphones.

Yeah, but those frequencies above and below our hearing still have an effect, sub bass in particular. When I'm making a bass synth, I almost always include a couple sine waves oscillating below 15 hz. It makes the final product sound more full and head rattling...

Yeah, for sub basses no headphone will fit, only the vibration of a boomer...

I have AKG 240 and they are perfect for making noise without annoying anyone at night but as soon as I can I put them off and go back to my monitors !

If you want polyvalent headphones I could also recommend Sennheiser's HD-25. Very pleasant to listen music in the street, to make some, a little bit exhausting due to the pressure it does on the ears, and a bit too "fattening" to mix and master with.

AKG 240 fo the studio, and HD-25 if, as me, you don't have the money to afford several headphones... And moreover, every single part can be ordered and replaced, and they're damn resistant

About the Dre headphones. I'd just like to point out that Monster is notorious for charging lots of money and not delivering anything worth paying extra for.

LOL! $350 and they dont even list freq response anywhere. What a crock of shit. Monster is a shitty company to begin with, I wouldn't ever buy a product of theirs but these headphones are competing with Bose, not AKG's...(consumer audio, not pro-audio equipment)

20khtz can be heard by someone in their late teens. some 60 year olds may have difficulty hearing anything over 8 - 10khtz. varies with age.

16 htz is what humans can hear before they just feel the sound.

I've got AKG K240s (Open, weak bass, fine if you're mixing Nashville songs)

Also Sennheiser HD280s (Horrible bass response, but good for vocalists who like something loud and exciting)

Also Ultrasone 750s. My choice, without question.

On the subject of headphone amps, any one got any suggestions for good ones? I thought about buying an X-Can for a while now, but it's soooo goddamn expensive. BAH!
