being from the states. if not for the internet, i might not have ever found out about dubstep.
i was just thinking about how much the internet contributes to the growth of musical genres. it allows people to find out about a music scene far away from them.

Not anymore but once upon a time it played a huge part in spreading the sound nationally and internationally - it
was all the press coverage at a time when it was few and far between in the actual press.

thats true man, but look how long it took jungle to go global.
dubstep has reached across the world fast than it got down the M4 to cardiff and this forum certainly played a hugh part in that!

Although I am much more of a lurker than a speaker, this board has been a constant feed of dubstep knowledge from finding out where to get specific links on mixes, to track IDs, or to dates for future releases, the list obviously goes on. I think this forum has brought so much unification, and knowledge about all spectrums of dubstep that I don't think I would know 3/4 of the stuff I do today. This board is invaluable.

One of the major symptoms of the internet being such a force when dubstep came about is how internationally the music has spread in terms of producers.
Within a short period American producers tunes(Juju etc) were getting played alongside the granddaddys from croydon. Now we've got a situation where people from Holland, Finland, Sweden, Romania, Austrailia, the US are all playing a major role in the scene. As far as I'm aware this never happened for Jungle or D'n'b.
The family vibes can spread further and connections are made easier and faster by the web. I think that by dubstep is less introverted and territorial than other genres and this has been facilitated by the presence of the internet

I found the sound outside the forum, but the forum taught me what it was I was hearing, where it came from, who the producers were, what labels did what releases, when the new joint was dropping, etc.
From Wiki on the Roman Forum.
The Forum was the public space in the middle of a Roman city.
It had a great social importance and was often the escenario of diverse activities, including political discussions, meetings, et cetera.
This can be translated into Dubstepforum with no effort at all.

Like it or not the internet has added an invaluable extra dimension to music and human interaction. Dubstep has grown immensly over the past few years, and part of that growth is certainly created and sustained by the global online community. But the forum would be nothing without the music, membership only started really rising after dubstep wars

Mate... Sorry... Maybe you don't know Ivan very well... Before this forum Ivan was writing a blog... That space was full of mixes to everyone outside London get in touch with the sound... And he wasn't alone... Other guys did this important task too... I say this forum make the scene... I say that Ivan made an important move with his initiative... Please don't get me wrong... But... Even press enter here searching for precious information about what is being made in the scene...

every music community goes through a nostalgia phase. we're in it right now. there's enough history at the moment to look back and reflect. it's a very healthy thing to be able to look back and not be able to look forward.
on the other hand its also important to recognize nostalgia for what it is and not let it taint your experience, your patience or your attitude towards changes.
people put way too much importance on this site.

the only reason I signed up is because after 6 months of listening to dubstep and going to all the dubstep parties in Miami...all the people I met always asked me if i was on 'the forum'...
*and I is here now cuz I has waaaaaaay too much time on my hands.*
I learn about music through friends and actually going out to listen to it, more than ANY other way....
