Is that single core?
It should be able to run them on their own, standalone and not many resource-heavy plugins.
I wouldn't attempt to rewire or open more than one instance of FM8 on it.

single core....
i reckon you could make basic beats with no orchestra sounds, and no rewiring and 1 vst open.

You could do more than that!
I mean I used to make tunes on a 1.8ghz processor before I got my 2.8ghz dual..
Just gotta know what to load up and what not to, like I used FL and I knew if I opened X preset on Massive, it would crash my FL ..
It'll be good for making something traveling or mapping out ideas somewhere else around the house.

I reckon this would be a laugh for getting some drums and a synth down

Reason would be absolutely fine providing you don't use huge combinators or multiple Thor patches.

check ebay if you want cheap laptops.
my mate got a mint condition sony vaio laptop. its got 700mb of ram, a 1.6ghz cpu and its really fucking small. cost him £200. cheap as chips.
specification isn't really important...people were making fat beats ten years ago on computers half as good as that laptop.
what's the processing power of an MPC? fuck all i bet, but premier manages to make some bangers on it

I was having a look on the PCWorld website yesterday, and they've got a massive section of refurbished laptops, some really good spec ones aswell going for around the £300 mark
Dual cores @ 1.7-1.9, 2GB Ram, and around 160GB HDDs
There's a Toshiba
one I'm looking at for £320 which has a decent GFX card in too....
