Not a byker but a hater

Post by blip » Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:39 am

I am probably the only Boomkat hater in the universe. Am I? Great selection but all the rest pretty much sucks. Takes too long, lets you order out of stock records, sends no confirmation emails and the best is when the orders are sucked into the vacuum, never to reappear.

And yes, I thought the newsletter was good until I started thinking "how many revolutionary-you-must-have-it-will-change-your-life" records can be released daily?

ah no, i like being able to hear the out of stock records. and i've never had any problems with ordering from them at all; if anything they pack the vinyl too well so it takes that little bit longer to open.

big up boomkat, i'm only fucking around.

My bad luck, maybe.

But I wasn't talking about listening to the out-of-stock records, I like that too. I'd order a record only to find out when the package arrived that it was not there, because it was sold out. The website is not reliable regarding availability of items.

bad customer service too.

you call them, and the number is for another company that takes calls on their behalf, who are completely unable to even locate my order there and then. waste of time imo.

unfortunately, they do have a decent selection of music. i try and look for an item elsewhere unless i really have to use them.

oh, and my last purchase was very badly packaged, resulting in a worn vinyl cover.

Spent about a grand on Boomkat now, customer service (via email) is very good.

The problem about ordering out-of-stock items is true though... can be a pain in the arse when its something you really really want.

hahaha.... feelin that.

Music journalists grate me because they hate on things needlessly (often just to look witty),
but reviews on shops are the exact opposite - everything in stock gets bigged up regardless.

so take it all with a pinch of salt, and judge by what you hear. ;)

exactly - got good service when I was in Guernsey also..they always say when items are limited, so sometimes got to expect some disappointment..

My only gripe is that the internet shoppers have better access to the exclusives than the regulars who go to the shop..means anyone looking to pick up a limited promo for future profit and not the record itself do well.

Sort me out connor!!

People don't seem to understand: Boomkat blurbs aren't supposed to be 'reviews', they're just the press release in a slightly edited form. So if a LP is supposedly revolutionary, then most of the time it's not Boomkat who are claiming that, it's the PR people who handle it. Admittedly they could make this a bit clearer on the site.

i've used boomkat/pelicanneck for mailorder for five years now, ordering on average once a fortnight probably, and have never had any problems at all. very occasionally things have gone missing in the post but they have sent replacements without fuss and the customer service has always been friendly. i agree that a warpmart/juno style auto-updating system would be useful to prevent you from ordering stuff which is already or about to out-of-stock and hopefully they will introduce that soon. the free postage thing they have on orders over fifty quid deserves credit too - nine or so twelves from any other online store is going to cost £6-£10 to send within the uk but with bk you may as well just spend that saving on the another couple of bits.

on a positive note, they're one of the few shoppes actively involved in stocking and promoting VARIOUS PRODUCTION.
