needsome help-sound proofing

Im moving into my new house in two weeks and am looking to convert half my garage into a studio for the time being. Any 1 got any tips on a cheap but good way to sound proof? (gotta respect the neigbours for now).
i know about the ol egg box way ect (which does work) but want it to look half decent.
any help would be much appreciated.

Egg boxes=High freq's only and evan thats debatable. They might prevent hi freq slapback but it wan't proof you room. To sound proof for lower freq's you need mass and density. Thats why most studio's are built to the room in a room specification.
Goto spoundonspound they've done tones of article's over the years should be some goos reading for you

Jay,
You have got to make the room airtight and then put in a good muffled aircon unit,This is to big a topic to discuss here you need advice from a specialist.I have witnessesed a lot of people try this and fuck it up through ignorance and for the same cost as doing it the right way.

Go to the EQ magazine forums and they have an acoustic section, there are a lot of pros there who really know what they're talking about and they'll be happy to give you a load of avice and info, i think there's also a sticky with a link to an amzing acoustics tutorial that ANY producer should have read if they're not already an expert on acoustics.
Remember, acoustics are second in importance only to the vibe of the track... if you know your acoustics and get shit working accordingly then you can probably use the egg cartons to make the tunes (!?!?!) cos they ain't gonna soundproof shit!

lol. cheers man. had to put that in as thought that'd be the first cheap tip. ( the ol egg box's did do some gome good on an old station i used to be on still.)

yeah the egg boxes do a little bit, i used to have some in my vocal booth till i got more serious about producing and did some propa research, they cut a little high end which can help a little in some situations but you can do so much better for not a lot more money... rigid fiberglass is where it's at... foam in OKish but i'm not a fan myself you it doesn't absorb much bass...
check the EQ forum though it has bare DIY plans and all that shit. If i was less lazy and less busy i'd find the link myself but i'm a lazy busy bastard so you gonna have to look.
by the way big up man i'm feeling your tunes, didn't notice who it was posting when i replied the first time, probably wouldn't have been so cocky innit!!!

I read in a mag (dunno if it was Computer music,Knowledge or TM)a few months ago about soundproofing the room with duvets,haven got the article at the minute but i'll look for it and once i find it i'll post it up..
