Post by ill gates » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:16 pm

i recognize it's probably a sampler doing the business, but where does that bass sound come from? i hear guys like SS use it a lot too... is it a sample, or some virus sound? what's the skinny?

yeah that's pretty fucking sick..

i don't know, it kinda sounds like FM synthesis to me.. could be wrong though. you could probably do this with wavetable as well if you got the right wave shape (or two).

additionally, there's an interesting effect on the voice.. it's a moving filter... there's a reaktor effect ensemble called 'anima'.. it's a moving filter bank. "an array of graphically-controlled band pass filters nimbly sweep, dance, and resonate..."

I couldn't resist ha ha ;)

----------------------------

I'll have a proper listen and see if I can come up with a way of making it....

Which bass are you refering too?

I presume your on about the lower one which is more unique than the resonant bass.

The resonant bass will be easy enough to make, although off the top of my head I can't tell you how to make it.

What software are you using?

I'll try to replicate it for you tomorrow when I get back from work.. :)

i use pretty much everything.

ableton as a sequencer, then all types of shit. if it's some quirky vst i'll just make the sound and then sample it, but i'm pretty sure the sound is either a common sample, or else a preset on some synth because i hear it in like every fucking tune these days....

i wanna cain it before it's played out!

Brutal Electro 2 Patch on NI Massive bruv..... All day long. :?

Obviously they've layered a deeper fuller bass underneath and done some LFO automation, but thats about it really..... :|

Same sound can be achieved in Reason using Wave 8 on the Subtractor. Just turn Filter 1 up to max (or Notch) then put the phase modulation to either x or -.

Also on the Subtractor, try using two sawtooth waves, and turning up the FM knob a little.

I was going to say that. Funny as I had that patch in my head today too. I was listening to the latest Skrewface mix in the mix section and there are two tracks that use the same patch, with no FX lol.

I wont say any names but it is very clear they are using the patch (only on one note too) as it comes.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
