Reason4 audio problem

Is it me or when you save music in Reason4 to .wav it loses some of the dynamics compared the sound you get when you play the file from Reason4? I know Reason has a unique sound it produces but I was not aware of any difference between playing from Reason and exporting to wav.
I might be full of shit but I am sure it sounds different.

with you on this one! What I do now is bypass mastering thingy ma-jiggy up the top the just bounce the .wav - load it up into wavelab and deal with it there - seems to not go all nuts.

im using reason 4, i dont think you lose any of the dynamics, you just get a slightly different sound when you play back in another program

say again m8:)
I dont get that at all.
You saying the 'hardware' interface at the top of the rack? !

I am exporting to wav from Reason and playing the .wav file in Soundforge.
I dont think Soundforge will change the .wav at all, or does it?

not unless you change it yourself when saving from SF
not sure about the whole losing dynamics thing though. for example, you finsh a tune, export, listen to it in say windows media player, will probably have less weight to it, stick it in traktor and its more or less how it sounded in reason

Nah the "default mastering suite" thing you can tweak around with - I always thought it was total cack, so I just don't bother with it and wack it into wavelab and use a 10band EQ instead of those parametrics they got in Reason.

i wouldnt recommend using the default mastering suite to control the overall dynamics of a whole tune anyways. a few tweaks here and there though can be very useful. you would be better off using a few mclass processors stacked under an individual device ie redrum, dr rex, malstrom etc

Yeah I do this but like you said, addin the odd tweak and that I thought it always ruined the track - I could never get it right. Thats like the only bad thing I have to say about Reason - other than that its such a beast, I wish it allowed just to import FM8 into it though, I think I'd drool

thats it . I am talking about just exporting from Reason and playing the file in Soundforge.
I swear things sound a little bit different when playing from Reason.

Reason sound quality is a bit strange I find.

yea there is a difference for sure, the tune is still the same though. at the end of the day, you get a release, it gets played around the country on various systems, its going to sound slight different on every set up.
i did notice though, when i made the step up from reason 3 to 4, that 4 had an overall slightly thicker and sweeter sound and that my previous reason 3 projects sounded alot different. with some of them i was actually quite unimpressed but have got used to it now

are you exporting as 24 bit, or 16 bit? if 16, are you dithering?

How much of a noticeable difference is there between 16 & 24 in regards to the mixdowns?
also, what do you mean by dithering?

only thing i have noticed is the drop in volume level,
something at just the right level in reason will come out and be quiet in everything else.
i dont know why this happens but it does, only way i can remedy the problem is mixing through cubase which is long!

If you are using SF to change into a 320 MP3 from the R4 Wav, you shouldnt lose any sound quality. Just be sure to export at 24 bit in your wav. This allow so much more space for the wav, thus you wont lose any sound quality. As you wont be dithering the sound at 24 bit wav, and SF plays 24 bit wav no problem.
No need to bounce in anyway as others have suggested... this would just be an extra amount of money you would need to pay for an outboard mixer. When all you need to do is make it 24bit. Sound quality will be exactly the same.
Hope this helps.
