im mixing with 2 turntables, no serato or whatever.. what can i do with ableton live+my decks?

can anyone give me some info\tips\tutorials?

is there any way to just put effect live on the output of my mixer?

If you've got a decent ASIO soundcard, you should be able to input the output of the decks (depending on what's in your signal chain, either one feed from the mixer or seperate feeds from each deck) and then use Ableton for effects and for more channels/samples/instruments etc... just assign a channel to that soundcard input.

Alternatively, if your mixer has an effects loop, I guess you could put your laptop there, so that you're still based around your mixer as it's set up now.

any1 else has some tips ? what do u usually do with ableton while using normal vinyls?

I used to assign the tempo in ableton to a slider on a midi controller and then set a high and a low, for example for dubstep low might be 130bpm and high be 150bpm, then use ableton like a third deck... it takes time and is tricky you need to try and bring it in and use a combination of abletons tempo and the pitch control on your turntables, obviously the freedom that ableton then gives to mash things up makes it worth the while...

hmm i'm not usin ableton as my prodction sequencer so i'm quite new to it and don't really know how to get that kind of stuff working \:

Both these questions have been answered earlier, unfortunately very briefly by tech heads.

the two options available are to make a signal chain like this:

decks->mixer->ableton->speakers


decks->mixer send channels->ableton->mixer return channels->speakers

Basically in ableton you need to set it up so that the audio is coming in from the decks much in the way you would if you were recording samples from vinyl. then just bung as many effects as you like on this channel, or on the send channels in ableton.

Sorry not really much of a better explanation than those above. The only advice I can give you really is to fiddle around with settings until everything works the way you expect it to work.

nevermind, i got it to work, thankseveryone, now a ne question..
my computer plays both thenormaloutput of the mixer and the one with the effects at the same time, any way of getting rid of the normal one?(if i record it only records the one i want, but itss pretty hard to listen to what you're doing like that..)

I think he means that the dry signal is running straight through his computers soundcard as well as the wet signal inside ableton. I also have this problem and it's not one that I have put any time into to try and fix yet, as I don't use that setup personally.

I think it might just be a case of disabling the input on the soundcards built in mixer. As with before; tweak tweak tweak.
