BLOC 2009
13 - 15 MARCH
BUTLINS
MINEHEAD (nr. Bristol)
BLOC 2009: new location & Future Sound of London to play live for first time in over ten years
BLOC is back for 2009! The solar system’s leading indoor underground music event has been re-configured for the future and will feature a more powerful lineup than ever considered possible at a brand new and wildly exciting venue… To find out more, read on;
There are no words for how excited we are to announce the first act on BLOC’s lineup:
THE FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON – LIVE
Despite massive chart success (most notably with the massive ‘Papua New Guinea’) and constantly being name checked as one of the most influential electronic music acts of all time, Brian Dougans and Gaz Cobain have not played a show as The Future Sound of London for over ten years.
Their show is a mind-blowing high-concept audio-visual trip to the Future. FSOL play live in their studio, connected via ISDN to a monolithic video bank on stage. They get a live feed straight back from the audience allowing them to monitor and adapt to the crowd’s reaction for a true live performance. If you can’t quite get your head around how it’s going to work, check this amazing footage from their most recent show at Essential festival in 1997: http://tinyurl.com/blocfsol
In other news, BLOC has a brand new venue for 2009!
BLOC in 2009 will be held at the Butlin’s mega-resort in Minehead, near Bristol.
The thing about Butlin’s is this – it is actually really good. In previous years the pleasure taken in the holiday-resort side of BLOC may have been a little tongue in cheek. Butlin’s Minehead features the kind of holiday entertainment fun stuff you can really get your teeth into;
It houses the largest water park in the South West, which has a wave pool and a flume that fires you screaming from its jaws at a speed of 40 miles per hour. It has a fun fair with rides that are massive enough to freak you out if you’re the kind to get freaked out by massive rides. And it never, ever rains at BLOC – everyone attending is housed in luxury holiday apartments which surround the main, indoor arenas.
It is the utter and the outright elite of holiday parks and we are exploding with joy to be hosting BLOC there. More line-up news coming soon…!
