I'm sick of not feeling inspired.

anyone got anything they do in these situations that help them?

Work through it, when you come out on the other side with something worthwhile it'll make all those wasted hours seem worth it. I take the view that every single second I'm at my PC I'm learning more and more about my software. So if I finish a beat, or get nothing done - it doesn't matter as I'm gaining knowledge.

if i get writers block ill just leave the tune for a couple of hours and do something elso play xbox, watch tv, listen to tunes normal worls for me

i just ride it out. it happens to me usually for weeks at a time its bare frustrating.

play with a synth and effects, marmite, fliters, whatever, untill you find somthing new and take it from there.

i had this for a stupid amount of time, about 2 months. i was feeling pretty disilusioned with it all tbh. Hxdb's sample pack compo reinstalled my passion for production, plus a few techniques ive sourced along the way and havent looked back since

1) Have a spliff
2) listen to a mix or watch a film
3) if all else fails SLEEP

The only thing that will heal it is time.
Just recently got the drive back myself. Churned out about 4 new tunes, 3 of which can be heard here (shameless spam), since I got it back.

It's so so fuckin depressing when the block turns up. But it'll come back. Always feels like it won't, but it does.

start a new tune, work on an old tune, work on synth pads, work on bass patches or have a sample session. When I'm stuck I just cut samples and usually something I'm sampling will inspire me. Or go to the dubs section and listen to other peoples tunes. That always helps.

Smoke some herb and play video games.

I think that's my solution to everything come to think of it.

Last time I got it I listened to 'Final STage' from our very own Widdler and it got me out of it haha.

when i run into epic writers block i usually try and get hold of a load of new music to listen to. sometimes it really inspires me to work in a different direction.

And a spliff can't hurt...

I always find doing a remix gets me in the mood to make beats again. But if you cant be bothered with that just go on a miassive sample hunt for a couple of days. Then you will have some new sounds to work and new inspiration.

I find a zoot does help but sometimes it does make you less insirational you have to judge your mood imo

Get off the computer and go outside!!! Seriously, live you life man. If you can't make tunes right now, then don't. Just do something else. Especially with others, because believe it or not, a lot of your inspiration comes from actual events in your life. Just forget about making tunes, and go skateboard if you do, or catch a movie, or meet up with friends that you haven't had a chat to in a long time. When you don't think about music, music will come to you.

Cheers guys and gals, i tired a few things there, minus the spliffs, couldnt get hold of any but last night me and me mate stuck the computer in me shed and smashed a few tunes together and i am once again happy to sit infront of my pc next step, to learn how to use logic

mate, i thought logic would be impossible to learn when i saw all those manuals, im not really experienced either i just had a bit of basic cubase knowledge, i found just start to make a tune then you will want things to happen in it, like i wanted a sub bass 'oh how do i make a sub bass' then you read the manual and end up fucking about for a bit and voila

logic 8s manuals are pretty hench but they're well written. i can usually find what i need to know.

Big joint and a brilliant film... something interesting... you'll soon have ideas appearing.

what i do:

ride my bike around for a few days, doing pushups, kicking it with friends, playing chess, hanging out on the street and in parks, eating well...

no big deal or anything, just some exercise and interactivity with people nature and surroundings. break down all of the patterns and judgments that build up in my consciousness.
