...just got me.
i just finished a new track some minutes ago and did an upload to my myspace. http://www.myspace.com/easternelectrics (first track in the player )
at the same time i heard a dubstep-track on sub-fm that used the exact same sample as i did in the new track. (the "kill dem with positive vibes" - sample i found in a sample pack on the forum)

now i´m pretty unshure what to do now.
on the one hand i think mine differs a lot in the way i used it. i also spent a lot of time on this (my first cubase project).
on the other side i feel like a kind of "biter" now that i put it on myspace.
(i´m from a hiphop background where using the same samples kinda strictly no-go)

what do you think?
you guys know other tunes using this sample?

Personally I would hate to have made a track with a sample only to find it in another dubstep track. I ain't feeling none of that.

Even when I do use say drum samples from Battery that I know tons of people probably use, I always have to change them up a bit and make them different enough. As a producer you want to feel your music is strictly unique.....

Alot of dub step tracks have used reggae samples and they have all been done before, it's just re-using something and putting a new twist on it. Not necessarily a bad thing if you are the first. It's not great to be the 2nd, 3rd, 4th person to use the same sample in a dubstep track though.

Didn't Widdler have a tune with that same sample too?

I always hear samples I've used, EVERYONE uses the vengeance samples, the difference is that they are drum or FX samples so it's not too bad.

They key is if you're going to use a sample as a lead role in a track, make sure you dig it out yourself so there is a smaller chance someone else will have used it.

There's no dilemma, its inevitible you'll hear samples you work with in other producers work,
Every producer is different and approaches the use of a sample differently.
Or should be, at any rate.
If i'm using a vocal sample i know is popular, i'll usually spend a fair amount of time reprocessing it and jamming it with the sequence I'm working on.

I am not a fan of using samples that are already being used in another tune of the same genre!

I may use a sample that I know from a totally different genre tho if there is noway I could change it for some retarded reason.

i made a tune with dibbydj and a tune wit the champion dub accapella both have since been released by other artists and mine never got any plays lol

How does it make you a 'biter' any more than the other person that used it? It's in a sample pack, you used it, if it's a good tune it's a good tune. If someone listens to it and enjoys it then finding out that someone else previously used the same sample won't suddenly invalidate their emotional response to it or something...

A good deal of vocal samples I've heard in dubstep tracks are all jacked from early jungle tunes. I like dubstep for that reason though. Makes something old, new and fresh again. What really sucks is when you write a tune, someone hears it, and then they decide to jack the samples you used and make a better tune and release it. I'm not going to name names, but some west coast cats did that to an early track I was working on that a friend let them hear. Needless to say, I never finished that track because they released a pretty big banger with the vocals I used. I jacked it from a jungle track anyway.

I don't like rinsed out samples. If it's been done, leave it alone unless you can top it or you're making a different genre. I just did a hip hop remix the other day for a comp. Decided to use that Henry Mancini piano tune from Sounds of the Future - Lighter (classic jungle). Turned out it was already done by Immortal Technique, so I ended up axing it and sampling something else. Chances are if you are using any samples that are popular or classics, they've already been used. Then it's a matter of writing shit yourself, paying someone to do vocals, or sampling more obscure tunes. I wouldn't recommend using vocals from a sample pack either if you're expecting to have original vocals...most definitely rinsed. Better to sample vocals yourself.

without sounding like a hippy (this something which a friend said to me, which i think relates to this)...music/audio and sound alike has infinite use and meaning for each listener (producer musician, whatever)...that shouldn't stop just because somebody else put their mark on it in whatever way, they're just putting new and different life into things it's unique to everyone...this is carried out in alot of ways everyday, especially in music (mixtapes/sharing music/DJ'ing, sampling producing/techniques/style, whatever)...damn that makes me sound like a hippy

I've heard tracks with sounds/beats that i made and put in a sample pack for people (sounds and beats which i've used myself in tracks) it brings something new each time [/tree hugger]

forgot to mention! but yes, quite a few, although this is the only one that springs to mind. it's kind of dubstep related anyway, as it's a collab with Oris Jay...

it was a reality check for me- i was relying on samples WAY too much. it put me back into reactor/albino and making my own sample packs, along with recording friends vocals and even putting my voice mails thru a 4 track tape recorder and warping it.

just get creative, and try to spend more time making a sound people can't replicate! i need to do the same

i agree that there is something new in it every time a producer uses a sample...but there are at least 5 tracks out now with this one...i think that´s enough. back to the roots - sample digging FTW!
