someone wrote this letter in DJ mag complainin that when djs have earplugs on they end up putting the music up too loud for the crowd. do u find this or do they work well for u? no offense, was just wondering what people think of this? cos i love when u can feel the bass in ur chest but hate when the treble hurts ur ears.

i've seen turntablists use them and beardyman too when he's using the kaoss pad.

apparently, they offer very good sound isolation and obviously thy are very light weight.
don't much more than that, sorry...

i gotta say the amount of volume i have to put thru headphones to cue up worries me.
have always thought earplugs would fuck things up too much, will have to test them out...

I bought a pair of custom moulded ear plugs last year, best money I ever spent. I bought 15 db filters but you can get 9 or 25 as well I think. I bring em with when ever I go out basically, makes the day after more bearable. Plus, if you hear a wicked tune or want higher volumes, you can take them out for a short period of time. I use them when dj'ing out as well, was weird for the first couple of times but now it feels better tbh.

tinnitus is quite big in my family, my dad and my grandmother sleep with the radio on and they weren't excactly avid ravers or concert goers. I still want to be listening to music at 50. Cant recommend them enough, especially if you feel like you are giving your ears a bashing everytime you go out.

skimming the thread again after my post, you are probably thinking about the things DROKKR mentions. But anyways, earplugs=good.

Actually the in-ear headphones have very good noise isolation from the outside so you can actually mix with the volume quieter and do less damage to your ears.

They are a bit of a pain though if you need to keep taking them out to mix because if you mix when them on you pretty much feel isolated from the tunes unless your mixer can route output to headphones.

theoretically you should be able to mix fine using filtered earplugs, as they just make everything quieter and cut out noise (rather than being a total physical barrier like the squishy foam-rubber ones).

I find it a bit uncomfortable with my earplugs though, as they stick out abit, and get bressed into your ear by the phones.

I guess this won'y be a problem with custom molded plugs though.

Everyone who posts on here should get a pair be they moulded or not.

I've got moulded ER15's and they are as essential as my wallet and phone when I go out clubbing.

If you've got them in for a while from the start of the night, then take them out after about an hour you realize how nasty many soundsystems actually sound and how much damage clubbing can do to your ears.

Take my advice, if you go clubbing (especially to dubstep and D&B nights) BUY EARPLUGS.

And good quality headphones such as the sennheisers HD25's are ideal for mixing with even if you use one in the headphone and take the other out to hear the monitor as the punters are hearing it.
