dub step is 100% good vibes. I been djing/producing this sound from day 1. It was my pals that invented the sound from the streets of croydon. Ever since hatcha started dropping the first ever plates at fwd i've never seen 1 bit of trouble. Even as the sounds progressed and crowds got bigger and nore varied ( in the day it was just industry heads who showed up) i still haven't witnessed no bad vibes. proper dub step is so chilled out and bass heavy u cant help but be rooted to the spot shocking in ur own world.

Nowadays if you want to experiance pure dub step at its finest it's all about getting down to DMZ every other month at brixtons 3rd bass.( next 1 is in january).

would love to go to DMZ...

I think you touched on it with the reversion to exploring the emotional connection to the music from a purely introspective vantage point of your own shocking world on the dance floor...

...the music itself i find kinda dark and twisted, frustrated, haunting and evocative. Invoking mournful echoes of far off places where life is peaceful, calm and happy as opposed to the invasive/intrusive drear and drudge of urban sprawl and squalor...

Don't you think there is something running deeper in the music that is uneasy and doesn't not quite sit right ???

I used to think post jungle d'n'b was the soundtrak to the apocalypse and breakz was the party reaction of "OK so the worlds fucked let's go out and party cos there is no tomorrow".

dubstep proper then for me is the hangover or chillout room of a party that has run out of things to party about...

...not quite what shocklee is on about with the controlled agression of PE in full effect, more cynical, jaded, making old and wise heads of those who are into it way before their years

I think dubstep is more than just a replacement for drum n bass...

Anyway, I'd say some of dubstep is dark as fuck; Horror Show ain't exactly a happy tune... But it doesn't have to be, take Congo for instance. I think for me, the range of flavours is one of the most important aspects of dubstep. Different sounds and styles brought together by an infectious groove.

what it is for me is when a track basically makes me lose my mind. shit happens to me when midnight request line comes back from it's breakdown.... shit happens to me when the knowledge remix comes back from it's breakdown... basslines and different sounds in the right place just do things to me. maybe it's scientific... maybe it's mathematic? maybe it's psychological... but it's real. my mind tells me I like a song, my body tells me I love it. so far there's a lot of dubstep that makes it happen for me, "light" or "dark".

Dubstep is good for me personally because it reflects the way I feel sometimes. When it seems like there is no hope I put on dubstep and it makes me feel better because it reminds me I'm not the only one who feels like that. It's also the reason why I can't listen to dubstep 24/7 and need some balance because at other times I feel like that there is progress being made. Having said that there is the odd tune every so ften which feels different. Some of the better mixes on here which are more diverse are the best for me.

i just want to kill people with beats and basslines.

i dont like all that stuff about liking 'dark' music becuase it's depressing. Nah doesn't apply here, not to me at least. I'd like to think i've left that teenage-angsty attitude behind a little bit. Dubstep is fun!

Though for me, dubstep is filling the void that dnb has left me with. I get as excited about hearing Indian Stomp, Twissup and Espionage as I do about Metropolis, Defunct Drums' Depression Decade and The Germ. But where as, in my mind, nowdays 90% of Drum and Bass is gash, with 10% holding down the real creativity; now Dubstep just inspires my imagination with pretty much every other release I hear. New sounds and rhythms, actual music, not just Dance music. It's this emotional, creative content, that whether it's a dark side breaky angry at the world banger or a dubby halfstep peace and love skanker, dubstep just gives me good vibes.

The dark heaviness of dubstep is appealling to me not because its "depressing" so much but, rather, intensely introspective. (Although, perhaps these are the same thing for some people. It seems many people confuse complex/deep emotions with depressing ones.) The feeling is like, I'm gonna listen to dubstep and read philosophy and brood and stroke my chin and frown and be all cool and serious and think about existence. It fits my introspective philosophical personality (like, finally some music as heavy as my thoughts!) and where I'm at in life (drifting through school, not really knowing what I'm doing, perpetually frustrated).

I'm not really down with people calling dubstep warm and spiritual or whatever. The whole coldness aesthetic that Task and Wiley and others go on about so much seems more on the mark. Like that coldtap track. Right on the mark. The tracks I like best are the grim f-ed up ones. I'm diggin that metaphor of dubstep as the party after the apocalypse.

Even though its a dark and almost antisocial type of music, it doesn't provoke trouble precisely because it is so introspective. Its sort of the introvert pair to grime's extrovert. (hmmm....)

Yeah totally!

For me I have always loved bassy riddim based music, hence my passion for bashment. Dubstep fits into this criteria perfectly for me. I guess the only thing missing on a personal note in dubstep is a catchy vocal hook, but I fully understand that's not really in the nature of the music.

what draws me in with dubstep,is the fact i can sit in a dark room with my headphones on n jus chill or i can jus go shack out 2 it.its got so many moods to it.i like music with an atmosphere to it.

Have to agree with you there...dubstep represents a broad spectrum of music...some dark some you can get lost in...coming from a techno background i just love the beats and bass, minimal style esp Mark One's stuff that's pretty dark and metallic sounding... tbh some of the indian vibe stuff gets a bit much for me after a while...sounds like Transglobalunderground and their ooold skool!!

loads of people are turnin 2 this music people i wudnt expect like my bird she loves chart music now she is lovin the dub an shes comin to the next dmz wiv me it jus goes 2 she wot kinds of crowds dubstep can attrack
