since i'm one of maybe 3 people that i know of that know what dubstep is in my area (let alone know how any producers names!), i am counting on you all to provide more names to research.
so far my favorites are as follows:
vex'd, skream, loefah, scuba, caspa...and that's about it
any suggested listening would be much appreciated.
help a noob out.

Put some graft in and do some research! It ain't that difficult
There's also a lot of threads on here with the same question being posed.
I'd suggest downloading mixes and looking at the tracklists - barefiles.com has hundreds of mixes to download - some of them have tracklists as well. Listen to radio like Rinse FM (rinse.fm and Sub FM (subfm.com) as well. Shows like N-Type, Kode 9, Scientist, Skream, etc - don't be a lazy c*nt lol and dig deeper
You can then make up your own mind and find your own space, and not just like something because everyone has said you should like it. You'll probably come to the same conclusions as a lpt of other people, but at least you'd have put the work in! Far more satisfying than being given it on a plate

well, joining this forum is part of my research. i've been downloading mixes like crazy, just wondering if there are any lesser known acts to look out for!

this is also my way of starting conversations on message boards.
i guess i should have started this off with a "what are you listening to?" subject.

Apologies for the snappy response then
A few artist recommendations to look out for - Headhunter, Appleblim, D1, Benga, Pinch, L-Wiz, to name just a few.

Self promotion...check out my stuff.
www.argonrecords.com
I'm in the U.S. but currently you can't buy my record here, just in the U.K. Throwing some different flavors in the mix. Artists I love are Loefah, N-Type, Distance, Pinch, Boxcutter, Luke Envoy, Skream, Djunya,
Caspa, Appleblim, Shackleton, Ironsoul, too many people to list. Check out barefiles.com and listen to some radio shows. They post a lot of track listings too. Look at all the mixes archived on this board too...a huge resource.

infiltrata is one of my favorite dj's at the moment. caught him in ft. lauderdale a month or so ago (photek was supposed to play as well but was sick or something). skynet's one of my old fav's.

hey there sir, I'll be spinning dubstep in Orlando on august 30.. is that near you at all? if so you should make it over... there's nothing like experiencing it live!

i live about 4 hour from Orlando. i see that that is in a Wednesday. i'd have to take off of work.
i'd love to make it, we'll see what happens. i think i am taking that Friday off to go to Tampa to see Nucleus.
you're definetly right about experiencing it "live". hearing dubstep on a proper system is what sparked my infatuation with it. hearing vex'd tracks on headphones one day and then feeling the bass in person is two completely different feelings!
