theres a crap free one called beatport sync, its the free version of traktor. but its boloks. i use it when theres no decks at a party and i feel like mixing/blending. good with anything 4 to da floor tho. anyway you can get it from the native instruments site. or here http://www.native-instruments.com/index ... rtsync&L=1

otherwise my mate has tracktor which i rate, not used it all that much tho so really vouch for it.

vinyl out of the question..? or even cds. not that theres anything wrong with laptop djs.

There are a few budget alternatives about, can't say I've used any so can't offer an opinion but if you have a look here you might get a better idea..

link

Have a quick search on google for review n stuff, see what people are saying.

Hope this helps!

What do you mean by usb mixer? if you just want a cheap midi controler, i would go for a korg nanokontrol or a Evolution uc33 they are not very expensive and you have plenty of faders/knobs/buttons to assign. As for the headphone output, there aren't many midi controllers with an integrated soundcard, so you will need to plug your headphones into your external soundcard to be able to cue.
The dj-wise midi controllers with integrated soundcard i know are m audio torq xponent, wich is a bit pricey, The vestax VCI-300, quite expensive too and then the Berhinger bcd 2000 & 3000.
Powerbook G4, M audio audiophile, alesis m1 active mk2, novation remote zero, Ableton live 7.

What i did was get a cheap mixer and the DJIO, i have a usb mixer too but the sound quality that comes out of it just doesnt cut it, and this way its easy to upgrade if u decide to go to time coded vinyl.
http://www.numark.com/djio
The DJIO also takes alot of strain off your cpu and ram so u can run way better latency's and your computer is less likely to crash or freeze. Also iv found the EQ's dont sound that great on usb mixers.

If thats what you want I would look into Serato or Torq. Why learn how to dj all over again on a cheap piece of hardware that doesnt feel like vinyl when for about the same amount (with Torq) you can spin just like you normally would and mix your tunes with your vinyl?

Torq is around $200 US I believe, probably cheaper on Ebay.

i got a behringer bcd3000 a few weeks ago for the same purpose and because i cant afford/find vinyl its a usb mixer with little turntable things built in, it also has a headphone port. its not too bad but then again ive never really mixed before so i dont really know what im on about lol it comes with tracktor 3 le wich matches up perfectly with the mixer it cost me $379 (new zealand dollars) so it might be within your budget i dont know what that converts to in pounds however???

A mate of mine's got the Vestax VCI-300 on its way, ships with Serato Itch and you need nothing but a laptop and some speakers to plug in to get going. Demo's I've seen of it don't look bad, might be a bit more pricy though.

I bought an 'xponent' a few months ago from 'htfr' (£470 reduced from £360) to do my radio show with and so far torq's not crashed or frozen once...... saying that i've not used it in a club yet, but if it's as stable out as it is at home should have no problems (famous last words lol).

nah mate its all about the Hercules mobile DJ box from ARGOS seriously i picked one up cos my decks got broke and i couldnt afford to buy some more.

its like £60 and its wireless, got two scratch panels , loads of built in effects, sample launchers, bpm match, full pitch and volume, the works

if you get it form argos you get wireless earphones too which are sick, i had my speakers in the living room and was mixing while having a shit,

if you are wanting to mix your own tracks an that, this is ideal. :D
