Don't really watch tv, read music press or listen to the radio, haven't got the faintest clue who's been in the charts for years to be honest.

And to be honest that suits me just fine - ignorance is bliss as far as idiot fodder goes.

Perzackly. Much easier to reach for some music I know I like on my computer or on cd/vinyl than suffer through hours of wayward mind numbing bollocks presented by fucking cocks.

charts are for dickheads LOL. What a stupid way to treat music.

It does make me worry for the future of the music industry and their Colombian partners now - still they can always go back to selling double-glazing and growing coffee respectively.

They'll have trouble molesting children as door to door salesmen. Oh well, everyone's got to make sacrifices.

cmon do you know how much of a cliche it is to be like 'yeah mainstream stuff is rubbish'? where's yr goth 'i hate the world' slipknot hoodie?

there's a million things wrong with the mainstream music industry, but not ALL of the music is bad (though obv a lot is lowest common denominator). does no-one like the new outkast tune? or the justin tune? or shakira's warbly voice? (okay, i know i'm alone on the last one  )

Shakira's much better if you turn the sound off but keep the visuals - gawd bless her.

Remember Alec Empire chattin about RnB a few years back - he was wondering why they don't just have soft porn with good music over the top - having watched MTV Base I can't help but agree

my point is if I want hear those tunes I will buy the albums or Mp3's, cant justify listening to shit radio in the hope that they'll be played.

innit dan, brap.
you bunch of non-conformist goth kids you, moaning about pop is so 1991

as far as im concerned pop got good in the naughties and kind of slews most underground musics around in terms of innovative production. Timbaland is probably the greatest procucer of our time.

Dunno if the 3 6 Mafia album is in the charts but its heavy!!

Timbaland is indeed a good producer, and I'm not totally against good pop, I just don't listen to the radio or watch music tv.

And at 35, I'm too old to be a goth (or indeed a kid).

Think there's a lot of stuff that stays underground because no-one bought it and it's shit tbh.

Having worked in a record shop, it was pretty obvious that most of the music that makes it big is the shit that's reduced first week so it sells shedloads and gets a high chart placement and is on MTV and mainstream radio on heavy rotation. Don't really touch either though, as the majority of it is of little interest to me. Not a snobbery thing, just not to my tastes.

If 90% of what you have to endure to get the occassional gem is rubbish, I've got better things to do (like talking shit here for instance)

Yeah, totally agree. Except I do have the occasional weakness for Radio 4. It's just so NORMAL and REASSURING! I guess that's the whole point! Even when that kid in The Archers is on crack. Gosh, how edgy :)

Think my world views gone blacker than ever since waking up to Today though - John Humphrys on "don't fucking lie to me you lying fucker, answer the question" mode first thing in the morning does my nut.

Used to like Peelie wittering on on a Saturday too, much missed.
