12"s Sticking
12"s Sticking
I hve started to notice that some of my 12"s are sticking on the record deck. I have recently changed the stylus, so that should be ok.
None of the records that stick have any visible marks on them.
It only seems to be some newer dubstep stuff that plays up.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it down to the way the tracks are physically cut onto the vinyl? I think I read somewhere once that the really low sub can be difficult to cut into vinyl.
Cheers

If you have an image on your slip mat you should flip it over. The silk screen can stick to vinyl and it will rub off on your vinyl and make it dirty.

I think I was shite at explaining this!!struggle wrote:ive never heard of this happening before. don't think the vinyl is the problem here. do you have two tables? is it happening on both? can you physically move the record with your hand when it gets stuck?
The record keeps revolving but the stylus seems to get stuck in the groove and skips back on each revolution (so you continually listen to abouit 2 seconds worth of track).
Only have one deck so cannot check against another.
I have weighted the arm fully forward (max at stylus) and tried an extra (small) weight above the stylus - still skipping!

Try adjusting the anti-skating. With Stanton 500AL's, I usually set anti-skating to roughly the same as the weight when the headshell's at a neutral height. Ie. for a 2.5g weight, set anti-skating at 2.5. If you've set the weight to full or even further, try setting anti-skating to 0.
Not sure if this is 'the' way to do it right, but been using these settings for the last 10 years or so with no problems and my vinyl's in excellent condition.. Not even sure where I learned this technique from..
