A "bomb", eh?

CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County prosecutors say a 29-year-old man traveling with his mother desperately didn't want her to know he'd packed a sexual aid for their trip to Turkey. So he told security it was a bomb, officials said.
Madin Azad Amin, 29, of Skokie, was stopped Aug. 16 at O'Hare International Airport after guards found an object in his baggage that resembled a grenade, prosecutors said. When officers asked him to identify it, Amin said it was a bomb, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto.
He later told officials he'd lied about the item because his mother was nearby and he didn't want her to hear that it was part of a penis pump, Scaduto said.
He's been charged with felony disorderly conduct, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman with the Cook County state's attorney's office. Amin's attorney told a Cook County judge Wednesday that Amin whispered that the component was a "pump." The guard misunderstood, and thought he said "bomb," according to defense attorney Eileen O'Neill-Burke.
"He told her it's a pump," O'Neill-Burke said. "He's standing with his mother. Of course he's not going to shout this out." However, Judge Gerald Winiecki decided there was sufficient evidence for the case to move forward after the female security guard testified that she heard Amin "clearly" say the word bomb.
Amin is charged with felony disorderly conduct, which could bring a three-year prison sentence if he's convicted. Amin is due back in court Sept. 13
He told the Chicago Sun-Times after the hearing that security officials did not give him a chance to explain the misunderstanding, that he would never use the word "bomb" while going through a security checkpoint, and does not consider a penis pump an unusual object to own. "It's normal," he said. "Half of America they use it."

He said pump in a really low voice and the guard freaked.
There are much better uses of our (US) resources than pressing charges against an embarassed young man afraid to say penis pump loudly in front of his mom.

I really think he could have used this reason to tell his mom when the security found it after searching his baggage instead of resorting to say "bomb". He's 29 and still can't stand up to his mother? Damn, a mangina I say.

I dont know? maybe he cares about his Mom's feelings he doesn't want to embarass her which would be the defintion of a good son. Furthermore - he didn't say bomb . He said pump. This story has been in the news for awhile and it keeps changing. IMO its just more propaganda. The application of the law here by the authorities is way out of wack.
Most importantly though for me though is that I dont buy into it and that- I REFUSE TO BE TERRORISED.

Well, its understandable that he may not want to humilate his mother, but @ the same time, he should just have said the truth in the first place. The security are gonna find out what it actually is in the baggage anyways. If he had been upfront then it might have saved a bit of time and unnecessary trouble. His mother shouldn't be too humilated or @ least for long because her son is an adult. Just because she finds out that he has a sex toy on him doesn't mean shes gonna be ashamed of him for life. For example, I have had it where my parents found out about a few things about my past that my dad has even told me that "what I did was worse than being a hooker". Yet, they still do love me and think I am a "good girl."

You know- your right Cham. I just realized that didn't read this version of the story very well. I stand corrected. I was wrong
However he still shouldn't be prosecuted to the full extent of the law imo.
Most people do things that they regret later- hopefully the consequences aren't as harsh as this though.

Thank you, WARREN. I am glad I am actually making sense one of these crazy times.
I do have to agree with you that this guy shouldn't have to actually be prosecuted over just a misunderstanding from a guy who can't stand up to his mom. The whole incident was enough punishment as it is and not forgetting to mention that it can be read by anyone in this world.
