Anyone ever done it? If so, does the beer taste like shit or is it nice?

Yes that man, this is an awesome idea. My dad used to make a bit of homebrew, it was pretty good.
It can go wrong, but why let that stop you. We had a big plastic barrel that you put everything into.
I might join you in this venture.

I will try and set up an illegal one at work where there's some space and it's warm. My house is too small and cold.
I'm definitely trying the first batch when it's done.

not sure how the beer tastes, although i used to live 10 mins away ferom the woodfordes brewery in norfolk. my mate used to work there, went and got well pissed there one day. they're a trustworthy lot so i'm sure if it's used correctly it will produce some half decent ale

It can actually come out really good. Follow the instructions and it wouldn't hurt to get a bro that knows what they are doing to help..
We did a few a couple years ago and they turned out great. Then again we had a legit brewer helping us. MAke sure you bottle it up right

I think how well it turns out can depend on quite a few factors i.e. Whether you use concentrate or fresh ingredients, The quality of ingredients (most importantly water!), The conditions under which it is brewed, How much care you take over it etc..

I have done it a few times, it's alright and you can make it pretty strong.

Hahaha you know it mate. Some of my mates have got into it as well so turned it into a comp to see who can brew the nicest. Good excuse for a piss up. Think it takes around a month before you can drink it maybe less.

my college prof used to brew his own -- dont know what kinda set up he had but appeared to be a rather proper one. his brews were rather good, though he would make a really dark rasberry flavored one which i didnt care for too much.
