Mixing dubstep & techno

What's up everyone? My name's Andrew, I'm a producer/dj in Austin, Tx. I've been lurking this board for a few months or so and figured I should join in.

Anyways, a friend and I are about to start doing a weekly at a club in nearby San Marcos called Dub Meets Techno, featuring dubstep, techno, idm and everything in between. I was wondering how many of you guys frequently incorporate techno into your dubstep mixes, and those of you that do, who are some techno producers/tracks that you like to use for your dub-to-tekno transitions? I've been spending so much time focusing on my production work and collecting dubstep that my techno knowledge is a tad rusty.

If you'd like to check out some of my original tunes, go to myspace.com/footclanelectrickoolaid. The first song on there is a dubste remix of the Banana Boat song by Harry Belafonte. I'd love to hear what you guys think

Peace!

easy Andrew.

I can't really offer much on this topic as im a shite dj and don't really play techno. But im definatly a fan of it! If you haven't all ready heard it you should listen to Appleblims RA podcast. Techno and Dubstep at its best:

Big up Andrew.

Sounds interesting. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you (check out my clubnight: www.myspace.com/colonyparty) and would suggest the following names when it comes to bringing a bit of 4/4(ish) flavour into the dubstep fold: Shed, Substance, Kontext, Marcel Dettmann, Norman Nodge, Robert Hood, Monolake, Deadbeat, Surgeon, Andy Stott (aka Andrea), MLZ (aka Millie), Pendle Coven, Convextion, The Black Dog, T++, Sleeparchive...

Probably enough! Good luck! (Def post a mix on the forum if you get one nailed anytime.)

surgeon all the way. flawless and avoids the cliches of using easy 'dubtechnonono'. i have never witnessed a bad surgeon set. check his website, there's usually a bunch of live sets to download

really depends what you mean by techno? Modern stuff or original 'ardcore early 90s stuff, or something else...

I mean i have mixed loads of 140(ish)bpm things with dubstep to see what happens and sometimes you sound like jivebunny and sometimes it works

Personally i am a big fan of acid and early 90s techno and have a mix here http://www.voidsound.com/livemixes.php (under my solo name LukeSnarl) which has a Hardfloor early 90s acid techno tune in it. Kinda works I reckon....

also the download in this post:
http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=74430 starts with dubtechno, then bleepy dubstep, goes through an early 90s rave section, back to dubstep then in 90s jungle! 4 deck mix too.

I agree with the Surgeon call. And deadbeat, but thought I should mention Rhythm n Sound too. And what about mixing actual reggae, dub or dancehall with dubstep too....

Go for it man - and post some mixes as people suggest! keen to hear what you come up with!

Jeff Mills circa 95/96 is perfect!
And it's really fast for techno.

another one I thought of - Plastikman - not the UK Plasticman/Plastician - but the Detroit one aka Ritchie Hawtin

for me its getting there. I keep wanting to hear more technoey style dubstep that isnt so soft, stuff that still has a tough dancefloor feel to it. Dont get me wrong its all great stuff but its hard to get the general public feeling something like clunk click on every trip unless your on one!! I want to achieve a clean crisp minimal sound with a sub to die for and the odd heavy wobble section... basically
