Maybe I expected too much. Bit like Nathan Barley, if I watch it again and expect less of it I'll find it a bit funnier.

I was quite excited about it when it first came out, but having watched a few, it does seem a bit too reminiscent of past glories. Preferred his C4 show to be honest, there were links but each sketch seemed to have it's own distinct personality, whereas I think the format of this one does tend to make it a bit samey.
Still worth watching as it's still funnier than 90% of the shite on the telly. Quite looking forward to the Mitchell and Webb show coming up though, think they were wicked on Peep Show and quite enjoyed the Play Uk series they did (even though their working class accents are pretty unconvincing and the budget of a nugget per 25 mins of footage is pretty obvious).

it's not laugh a minute but still pretty damn funny.
'no one expected terrrorists to fly buildings into planes.
no one was hurt but a lot of people were very surprised'
very funny despite the delivery being quite jaded.

Seems to have declined in quality a bit. I don't understand why he persists with that tired old ''cut up george bush speeches to make him sing/call himself a conker-fucker'' thing.
It's the little things that are most successful i.e. the girl with the voice of boris johnson.

I have immeasurable respect for the man's work, and it still baffles me that he thinks this is funny - it's so OLD. Still, nice to know he's human.

I think that's where it's falling down for me. Although a lot of modern comedy's quite cynical, this does seem a bit tired to me. Because of the nature of the beast, it does appear that there's no-one you really latch onto as they're all made-up reviewers, celebrity impersonators or celebrities cut-up or with new dialogues or put in a slightly different context. Even shows like Nathan Barley and Peep Show, where the main characters are shown up as self-centred, neurotic fuckwits, there's still some sympathy with them when something goes wrong in their world.
The fact that most TV's gotten more like TDT or Brasseye rather than less means that the parody doesn't seem to work as well, as it's far more scary and ridiculous at the moment than I thought possible a few years back. I think that without Chris Morris, it also loses a fair amount of impact but then from what I gather, Armando isn't nearly as dark as Chris (witness Jam), so I can see why this turned out the way it did.
Seems to me that when writers go out on their own they don't generally achieve that ying-yang that they had in a partnership (apart from John Cleese, but he had Connie Booth to write with after Python).
