SUB:STANCE - Jan 16th Berlin

:o  :o

It was my first time in Berlin and I was far from disapointed.
The venue was amazing, so grimey. For anyone who hasn't been the club is some kind of disused factory....

The bare concrete walls still remain virtually untouched. The system was spot on. Funktion one all round with four huge stacks and more suspended from the ceiling on metal chains. Minimal lighting. Really wanted to take some pictures but unfortunately they dont allow cameras inside the venue.

Set of the night for me was Scuba. Opening with that Mount Kimbie track, it sounded so fresh. His set progressed nicely through some real deep techy sounds into just all round darkness. He dropped some new Boxcutter track too which sounded amazing.

Martyn was a highlight also, loved the seemless transitions between Dubstep and Techno. Was good to hear some of his material I hadn't heard before.

Kode 9's set was interesting. Im getting quite into the funky sounds by people like Apple and some tracks by Roska but for me it just seemed to be dragging on for too long and it got to the point where I just wanted some Dubstep! Was nice to be able to wander up into Panorama Bar though to catch Miss Kitten b2b Martinez. Kode 9 did deliver though and hearing tunes like Stung plus Mountain Dread March mixed with that new Zomby track was sick.

I only got to hear about the first 4 or 5 tunes by Ramadanman, he played his Naphta remix of Jungle Republic. Love that tune. Would have loved to have stayed til the end but energy levels were low come that point.

Anyone got any info on when the next one is? Would quite like to go again but maybe in the summer when I can check out some of these parks Berlin has to offer.

Oh yeah what happened to Flo Dan also?
