Excuse me for repeating myself but...

...this forum category truly does irritate me. By creating a whole subforum dedicated to "Funky" Dubstepforum is inevitably taking regard for certain genres over others. Fine, that is all well and good, when these genres prove themselves to be more than a fad. I'm not saying Funky is a fad, I'm simply saying,...there are OTHER genres that are not fads, and have been around for 10+ years, that have insanely shaped what dubstep is today and they are forced to stay stuck in their own threads, within Other Music.
For example, Chu's "The BIG Thread of Niche/4x4/Bassline" thread of 12 pages which started in November of 2007 and is still getting posts just a few days ago. The magnitude of that thread alone spans more topics than this entire funky category does.
Or how about the plethora of Jungle/Drum and Bass threads, or Grime threads?
Why now should we break the cycle for such a new genre? I just think Funky itself is really funny because people continuously try and classify it, but if anything, its such a mixed bag of so many genres to begin with that classifying it seems almost backwards. You can continue to make the argument that so many people will be talking about funky and it will flood Other Music etc etc, but I will continue to say that it is only a matter of time until this subcategory looks barren and feels like some pretentious corner of waste. May I reiterate, I LIKE FUNKY. Why can't yall just bookmark funky posts in Other Music, or just favorite them into your taskbar? I do it for jungle, and I do it for Bassline. Or why don't you just join ukfunky.com ?
Really, DSF, I'd like to know good reasons as to why you think this category is warranted.

I know i posted to that thread. I still think no one has a good answer for this which is why I raised the topic again. If DSF needs to jump on the 'next shit' type of thing in order to stay interesting... im not for it. it's waste. who wants to have deadend discussions with LEQ anyway? are you guys afraid to take a stab at what this forum category is/means/represents? i think that this subcategory wasn't just about creating a space for talking about funky. this goes deeper imho.

A sticky in 'Other Music' would've been ideal, but dubway said he couldn't do it for whatever reason.

I posted in the last thread where you complained, although you appear to have not read it/taken it on board as you chose not to reply/discuss the matter further.
Here's the most important bit:
this forum was created to try and give some space for discussion over what is, in some ways, a new path for UKG - much as Grime and Dubstep have been in the past. Yes, there was much chat in the 'Other Music' and 'Dubstep' forums, but the discussions were therefore fragmented and we felt there was enough interest to create this little sub-forum.
and it still stands. Certain strains of what people are calling Funky are new a chapter in the story of UK Garage - which is where dubstep came from. It's arguably for this reason that a lot of the dubstep heads who are into progressive sounds are also sitting up and taking notice of Funky.
In general terms, this forum is a place for discussion, and hopefully a resource of past discussion with the aim of being useful to others in the future.
Take for example the Tune ID sticky threads (which are replaced periodically for tidiness' sake) - if you just have everyone posting their own thread which gets its own answer, you have a million threads about 1 tune each which aren't much use to people. However, if you have 1 thread, people can actually discuss the tunes, or just browse, click links, find out names of new tunes etc - it engenders discussion.
Similarly, this forum is an effort to promote and facilitate
discussion. Funky and likewise Hiphop (specifically the wonkier kind) have been given their own forums on a trial basis as there is a lot of interest & posting about both types of music, and a certain amount of crossover with dubstep too.
Re: bassline - there doesn't seem to be a great amount of chat across the forum. Yes Chu's thread is v popular, but there doesn't seem to be the number of posts outside of it to warrant its own forum.
I hope this goes some way to answering your points, although I'm afraid we may have to agree to disagree, and ultimately I don't see what motivates you to continue to get mad about the existence of this forum. It's not hurting anyone, it's helping to spread the word about new music to people and also giving them a place to discuss. This is all a
positive thing, and I'm sorry but I just can't see the negativity you appear to see.

1) Funky does mix very well with the deeper/2step side of dubstep and together it sounds like (future) UKG all over again..?
2) Most Dubstep heads I know are feeling and appreciate it?
3) It's a very open sound, just like Dubstep?
I mean, there are Bassline (and Dubstep & 2Step) Mixes on Funky 12"s... I could go on and on, but you said you even like it!? I don't see 1 problem at all? Are you not OK, Jess!?
Bless ya & get over it.... PEACE

why not have a forum space be in sync with what is both new and next, what people are already into and only getting more deeply involved with?

media & jumpons & knowitalls will endlessly try and classify while artists will just continue to make fresh good dance music.
this is as if DOA made a dubstep subforum.. and i believe dubway said it best, when he mentioned in another thread that he would like to see "Wonky" just come into and be considered "Dubstep"...
so instead of dissolving the genres, heads are quick to rush & jumpon the next big thing... sall good, so it goes, but its losing steam... everything is coming together and there arent enough adjectives to turn into genre names to describe it...
whether or not anyone wants to recognize it as such, the dubstepforum is a media outlet.. its editorial decisions have a effect on the way the music is portrayed. a funky & wonky subforum, while perhaps having good intentions, appears to me to be a overtly political gesture, giving the dubstepforum nod of approval to certain types of music, and in this case, what appears to be the next "big thing"... it imo, takes away substantially from the focus of the forum, and is catering to the what is probably large portion of "dubsteppers" who are just riding trends & fashion. cheapens the whole place for me...
niche genre discussion forums will always have their place, there IS more to genre than just a word, there is sounds, tempo, and vibes, and birds of a feather flock... i just think this spot should stick to dubstep & other, and let ukfunky.com grow...
and Hiphop is one word...
one

*edit and btw, im finding funky mixes better with new danchall than dubstep lol.. theres no escaping it, one music, one people, one love... we dance..

This is what I liked about Dubstep in the first place.
With Funky I kind of feel that UKG is getting back to it's House roots a bit. I've been playing Funky out for the past year and the Heads that really, really like it don't really like Dubstep that much. And, the Dubsteppers 'round my parts are into "wonky" "Glitch Hop" "Lazerbass" "Post-Dilla beats" or whatever you call Instrumental Hip Hop nowadayz. I think the the DSF should change it's name to Post Garage forum so we can keep everyone happy and talk about the flow of UK dance music and not get all wound up by Genre names. It's all UK dance music to me.
