Hey all,
I recently bought a 2.1 duo core 2 intel macbook, with only 1gb of ram... i new the ram wasnt enough but i was going to live with it untill i get some cash... anyway, running ableton and my cpu shows it running at about 35-60% which is bullshit i feel( a fair bit is going on but still)... so i upgraded my ram to 4gb and i dont see much of a difference.
My sound card is the virus ti snow - can anyone tell me why its running like this? it still works but i didnt buy a mac book for it to struggle more than my pc!
any advice how to run it more effiently i would appreciate it...
Cheers,
Phonetic System.

I have the same macbook and mine runs fine with logic open, even with a few instances of massive going
Im pretty sure spencertron wrote something about keeping CPU down on macs I'll see if I can find the threadaudi

what version you using?
if youre using an old version and its not intel supported, its running through rosetta emulation and that will probably be your problem!

Check - System Preferences > Energy Saver > Optimization and make sure it's set to 'Better Performance'

ram and cpu are two diffrent things, just becasue you upgraded your ram it dosnt mean your cpu should improve.
ram is good when working whit samples, means you can load up alot more in the work memory (ram)
generators dosnt use the ram so much, they are more depandant on your cpu and soundcard.
does ableton got dual core support?

what hard disk is in there?
IIRC the 160GB harddisks supplied with macbooks were only 4200rpm which would slow things down somewhat. but you can upgrade the harddisk pretty easily and cheaply if it's a white macbook.
i've got a 2Ghz macbook running logic 8 and it's great, no probs with CPU usage

Yeah it does, pretty sure I had to enable mine, could be that?

ableton's a really efficient program, and the dual cores are beasts. i have a 1st gen macbook pro w/ 2 gb of ram and have never had a problem w/ absolutely ginormous logic sessions (we're talking 70 tracks of audio, 18 busses, tons of plugs, etc).
my guess is that there's something in the ableton settings. enabling dual-core operation is my 1st guess, as stated above. otherwise, check out your buffer settings.
