using the delay effect on reason, using the steps doesnt seem to create good timing on the delay, i've fiddled about with m/s but i can't really get a nice timing either.
Is there a certain amount of m/s that creates good timing for 140bpm? i want it around 8 steps but that doesnt sound right
any tips?

107 ms = 1/16th delay at 140 bpm
Anyway, are you delaying something that's not quantized? Because that's the only time I find things to be wonky is when it has shuffle.

i dont think i have ever used the delay device at all in reason. the RV7000 has a quality echo and multi tap setting, so i dont even bother with the delay unit

Rusko gave some digit for the 'perfect' delay time for dubstep in his production video if I remember rightly. Don't remember what it was though.

it was was gash. that's what it was...
anyway, the timings already mentioned look pretty sound. sometimes it can be worth knocking the ms delay slightly longer than a perfect quantize to give it a dubby wonkyness. It'll make the drums pull against the delay which can give you a bit more bounce. i guess the trick is to fiddle around til you get something you like, but i'm sure you already know that...

Damn right, there is no such thing as a "perfect" delay setting. Listen to some King Tubby, that shit wasn't worked out on a calculator.Try some different settings and mess around with automating the mix and feedback.
Now we're talking.

On the DLL Delay unit, if you set the timeing you want first (ie, 1/4), then click on ms mode, it will be perfectly timed for you... All you have to do then is fuck with it to your liking!
