check your buffer length. Also if it gets all weird sounding you might want to increase that.

Are you using a MIDI controller?
The time between hitting a key and a VST rendering the sound can be quite a long time on some computers. To see if its your ASIO latency that is causing the problem, map a midi track to your on board midi synth and play something through the controller. If that sounds ok, it is probably your ASIO latency.
The drivers that come with cubase are quite slow, I always use ASIO4ALL (
http://www.asio4all.com/) which gives me alot lower latency. It also speeds up the response of your meters and VST graphics.
Just load a different driver under Devices > Device Setup > VST Audiobay and select ASIO4ALL after you have installed it. There is also a control panel in the ASIO4ALL secion of device setup to set the buffer length and stuff - make it bigger if it starts to glitch.
