[Ammunition] :: Bracket :: PLAY FM

In 2005, a nondescript mix CD appeared out of the blue in Combat Recordings' London headquarters. Simply titled 'Bracket', it blended dubstep, grime and electro together like it was the most natural thing ever, expertly mixed with the fierce energy of a hardened old-skool junglist. This relentless mix proceeded to cause weeks of delightful speaker devastation (and despair from the bass-shy neighbours).

A bit of investigation showed that the culprit Ben Brydon [aka Bracket] has been pushing underground beats in variant forms for the last 10 years, taking in everything from Punk, Dub, Hardcore, Jungle, Electro, Garage and Drum & Bass, soaking up their twisted elements like a malnourished sponge and throwing it back out at anyone willing enough to listen.. emphasising "ruff arse basslines, monster subs and cold, cavernous FX" in his own words.

Already having guested on Ammunition several times, this mix shows Bracket topping his previous efforts in what sounds like our favourite dubstep mix this year; a 90 minute fluid onslaught of hard, angular rhythms offset against spooky, eerie post-industrial ambiences with elements from each track mixed perfectly in key to form a cold, dissonant harmony and beats that complement each others' textures and arrangements. Technically brutal and brutally technical.

Listen up.
