Through the words of our elected officials and the distorted vision that our history books give us in school Americans now think our founders were Christians who founded the US as a Christian nation and like you said, being a patriot means unyielding loyalty to those in power.
I'm not anti-government by any means, I think there's always a balance, unfortunately that balance has swung the wrong way in recent years.

Yeah, I'm not anti-government myself, I just want very little of it. As little as possible to secure people's rights and such. It's just gone far overboard these past few decades.
I've come in terms with the fact that there will never be a libertarian government, ever, but come on, we've had classical liberalism (not the liberalism that Americans consider 'liberal' these days) in the past, why not bring that back? I wouldn't complain. I mean, I would, but less than I do now. Actually, I don't know, I'd likely still complain, but it would be better than what we have now.

Sure, but recent history has been different, no? Ever since World War II, having the government take care of us has been the norm and personal responsibility has been neglected. We've become servants of the European superstate. And don't get me wrong, I don't think the people in charge are 'evil' or anything, just completely out of touch with reality and have no idea how to improve people's lives.

Because while many people would just love to blame it on the 'free market', the market is anything but free. It's corporations. Bastards who own multi-billion dollar companies don't have shit to worry about since they're not personally (fiscally) liable for the actions of their companies, who are treated like legal entities, so where does the money come from? Innocent tax payers who first of all, have to pay for the demise of the company and eventually get fired from their job because they're getting too expensive for their employer. Hoorah! They call that a 'free market'? Fuck that, really. And now you're considered a bad person when you don't worship the state.
