does anyone know where i can find some actual music theory for a beginner (websites or books)? im thinking basic explanations of music stucture, rhythm, sonic-type stuff etc.

i never bothered to learn any music theory when i had the chance and now whenever i try and learn it all goes straight over my head

Try www.midiaddict.com (if that's not right, try checking for Computer Music magazine and then go to the forum. Should be loads of music theory stuff there. Unsurprisingly it should all be for computer musicians.
