Forum massive please.. I need your help.. its a big ask

Post by drama(urbannerds) » Mon Feb 16, 2009 4:21 pm

Yo

I am down to the final 6 in the application process. The next stage is a mix in Fabric Room 3 next Weds the 25th Feb.

I need to sell 20+ tickets just to perform for the showcase. The tickets are supposed to be £15 but i will be selling them for £10.

The competition is to be held @ fabric on feb 25th – it will be judged by the bookings managers of the club + a panel of famous djs and bands on rotation including annie mac from radio 1, andy george from radio 1 (a previous winner now on radio 1), the scratch perverts and does it offend you yeah? and the uniondjs.

It will begin at 8pm and run till 11pm (Not to late for those that have work the next morning so no excuses for not helping me out)

Each DJ will be given 30 mins to impress the judges.

The winner will then be announced at 11pm and will play extended set on the stage in the main room at 11:30pm.

After that the afterparty will begin and Annie Mac, Andy George, Scratch Perverts, Does it offend you yeah, the uniondjs AND A VERY FAMOUS SPECIAL SURPRISE GUESTS from FRANCE - will all play sets until 4am.

If I win I will become a resident at all of the UNION events in the UK. I will play UNION@FABRIC every month (on the main stage in room 1 just before the headliner) I will also play in every UNION@PLUG in sheffield, every UNION@HONEYCLUB in brighton and every UNION@THE ARCHES in Glasgow.

I will be signed to UNIONdjs agency and can expect to play every single major club and festival in the UK within 2 years.

I will also be a resident at ibiza rocks in ibiza for the dates that UNION have there this summer.

So you will agree that your £10 contribution will hopefully open up alot of doors for me.

there will also be an e-ticket link and i will put that up asa i get it please all i need your help. PLEASE..... Its £10

If anyone has any questions either hit me up on here or call me on 07535620789.

You can bring friends too. More the merkyer

no offense mate

but there are enough nights putting good music on for the people without glowsticks and bouncy castles that are struggling to break even

even if i had a tenner to waste, you'd be very low on my list of priorities when there are promoters working hard to get things moving and benefit the scene as a whole, rather than themselves

and i know you'll reply with "yeah but ill be playing all these big venues dj'ing dubstep etc etc" and i hear that. but after a week, when people start asking you to play something more interesting, when the dancefloors are clearing and the drinks sales are dwindling - the person who awarded you this coveted dj prize is going to say those dreaded words:

"aint you got anything a bit more danceable mate?"

and the rest is history

good luck with it though. and i respect you for having the balls to make such a post and then follow it up with 5 pages of spam including stars and fancy formatting.

rahhhhhh... mate that was a bit harsh.

The guys got a good oppurtunity here and if you didnt want to be help, then you didnt need to say anything at all let alone hurl masses of abuse.

Urban Nerds, even though i dont love what they do, dont only play dubstep... they play a variety of shit that allows for dubstep to lead their mixes... so when they ask old drama to play something more danceable, im sure he will be able to reach for something that crosses over nicely... and btw... fabric crowds generally like dubstep... it always holds a big crowd...

i didn't hurl any abuse - stop being a little girl

i was just being real with him, if a topic is posted i'm going to give my input. he was wondering why no one was replying or offering to help and i was giving him my point of view.

man up.

Firstly shredexx is the only one with some positive response on this post. Thankyou.

I've never heard the words

"aint you got anything a bit more danceable mate?"

I guess if you was a swag DJ who couldnt judge crowd reaction/demands you'd hear it alot hey D+.

shredexx is right that at Urban Nerd although i primarilly spin Dubstep i have no questions if i am asked to play a warm up set in the bar or a chillout set in the main room or a funky set at best mates wedding i have ability to do this without FEAR as you try and make it of someone saying
"aint you got anything a bit more danceable mate?".........

D+ - As for the Stars and the Fancy formating... Its called Promotional advertising... I thought it would be better for people to know what the rest of the night has in stall. I suppose if i wrote nothing you would say something about that..

dan_b... Seriously do you take playing at Fabric as some phony comp? The reason you have to sell 20 tickest is because its a guarantee to the club you aint some next DJ from the club, Front room, with acts like my Mum and Dad + Special guest the Dog..
I however want to sell around 60 to show i can help promote push my name. Makes a better impression.

Jayar - It aint a rent a crowd... To be honest it makes no odds. Crowd reaction wont be getting me anywhere in this competition. Its down to Annie Mac and the Scratch Perverts as well as the Club Owners/Promoters. So your right the rent a crowd doesnt help.

I take it knowone is intrested in any tickets fo the event then?? shredexx??

Good luck with it mate, I know someone else who's in the "final" (if he can sell enough tickets) but he's a bit of a mug so I hope you beat him!

I see a lot of these events, with names like "Earth Rave", "Hyper Rave", "Super Dooper Mega Neon Glow Rave" featuring 10,000 free glowsticks and UV paint and bouncy castles etc... there must be a lot of money in that market as the big/"super" clubs are willing to hire themselves out on a Weds/Thurs night for these sort of things...

If it can lead to warm up sets at Fabric's proper nights then that's definately a good thing but I think I'd cringe myself to death if I had to play at any of the events described above.

For me the "you're in the final but only if you make the promoter X amount of money" puts me off.

All the same, just my $0.02, I hope it goes well for you.

Try public school 6th form groups on facebook if you wanna sell tickets like hotcakes.

Yes totally get what your saying boss.. Its a student night init.. Them crazy Uni kids waste 1000's a year on boozing instead of revision so there is certainly a market for it these days in the week.

Thanks for the input.

Will look on Facebook for the groups..Good idea

What kinda beats you playing?

Let us know if you make it on the bill, we'll have some heaters for your playing pleasure at that point. I am not around the UK or I'd be all over it... or I'd at least tell you I would. Not a fan of said performers myself. I'd support it though. Good chance to expose a new audience!

Good luck man!!!
