Most of my beats are in a digital format and need a software to mix with.

I don't want CD decks!

Anyway can anyone who uses these software be able to give me advice on which is better?

Which is more stable, which had best bpm generator etc.

I will be intending to use a mac to run the software

I work for Rane and specifically tech support for Scratch Live.
Its well worth the investment and, although my opinion is bias, Scratch Live really is a better product.

i been using serato since a minute now and it works real good. i tried the final scratch, but you gotta do stripes and the format is some proprietary shit. the serato links with my itunes library without stress, and works rite out the box. i only hate the price of the vinyl, when you give one a skip, you gotta flip to the shitty 15 min side, and buy a new expensive record...

however, when i play off dub, i can't carry 4,000 tunes with me...now i carry every dub with no scractchy worn out sound anymore, NO FEEDBACK when you play in the club.... you can have the monitor aimed at the turntable,and no rumble no whine no screetch...maximum level possible.

i just wish i could "flip" visually through my crates like i do when i play offa vinyl...i got a visual memory about were the record is in the crate , the color of the sleeve, some graff on the sleev, etc...this kind of visual memory cue-ing sadly is lost with the digital solutions currently available. a playlist just dont cut it now matter how well you create playlist, especially if you are a spontaneous type who never plans out you set..

I gotta agree - Serato is the way to go without a doubt.

Chief - have you tried changing the colors of the labels in serato? I know its not quite the same as having the actual records to flip through but it helps a little for me. Also I think there is a prog on scratchlive.net that was designed to work with serato to help with organizing and BPMs, I forget what its called cause I found it at work and wasnt able to download it right away but it got good feedback. I think it was in the tips and tricks section...

Why not go the Ableton/Laptop route then as an alternative ? or you already skilled on decks ?

I find Ableton allows much more flexibility, obviously you can have the tempo matching pretty much setup before hand.... but its all the things you can tweak and drop in that make for some outstanding sets... also on top of that being able to drop in your own sequences etc...

Don't have to use a midi sequenser?

Anyway I've got some 1210's on order so really I think I need SSL.

But having looked at the Apleton website it looks like a good product to help with production.

My Serato is due on my doorstep in a matter of days so I'll hit you up with my thoughts once I get mixing.

From what I've heard its all about Serato, my m8 had Final Scratch but gave it back due to glitches while playing tracks. He swapped to Serato n neva had the problem again!
