Yeah innit, its not even a moral issue... Why learn another DAW when you can save up and get Ableton and not have to put weeks maybe months in learning a new DAW.. I'd rather just save an go get inspired till then.mad ep wrote:This.Lienne wrote:Buy ableton
Without getting into the same morality arguments over & over, the bottom line is- if you want your software to work & have tech support, then buy it. Simple as.

You could always learn how to use a free DAW, or a slightly cheaper one, like Renoise.
But I mean, this is only if you *really* cant go without making tunes... and not just here for the bandwagon.

One important distinction...DorwardDubz wrote: but until then
i need to make beats somehow
You don't NEED to make beats, you WANT to make beats. And that doesn't entitle you to anything... What would you do if your computer broke down, steal another?
6 months is nothing. I once had to go a year without a computer to make music with.. and I ended up filling 5 notebooks of ideas & notations. To be honest, I think it actually helped- if you can hold onto several ideas in your head for that long, then you know you have some dedication.
If you really can't do without, get a job. Get 2 jobs. Sell some of your stuff... etc etc. There are plenty of ways, but if you can't be bothered, then waiting 6 months for a handout shouldn't be a problem either.

i'm in my final year of college, doing advanced music 5 days a week.
So yes i do NEED to make beats both at college and at home or i won't pass,
and if i don't pass there will be no "Handout" of which you speak of. because i won't be going to uni..

i can understand where your coming from asking me to wait 6 months and just write down whatever inspiration comes to mind,
but i have been practicing live music for over 6 years and have my grade 7 in guitar and grade 5 in Drums, so i know what i want to make, and how i want it to sound, i have ideas jotted on paper all over the place.
I just need somewhere to let out my creativity.

That still brings me back to...

Or as many people have stated, Reaper [£30 quid for a 64-bit DAW is more than reasonable!!]... plus plenty of freeware options.
Surely doing "advanced music 5 days a week" at college has given you the skills to express yourself, regardless of a few minor software limitations?

at college we use Logic 8 or play in bands. i have neither a mac, nor the ability to pull a band out my arse and play live dubstep/garage.. as awesome as that would be.
