Billy Joel - The 1st dubstep 4/4 beat ever made?

Post by hiat » Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:07 pm

Just saw the video "Pressure" from Billy Joel on VH1 Classics.
Wondering if Billy Joel was way ahead of his time on this one. This is from 1982 mind you. I think a remix is definitely in order on this one. Just imagine the wobbles riding along underneath the synth melody. Check out the video link below.

Agreed. Keep the 4/4 and the vocals, maybe change the key of the synths, and you've got a proper remix. That Billy Joel song makes me think that something could also be done with this from ABBA:

Lol. That's so not dubstep. Guys try listening Eno/Bryne "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts". Now that my friends has the footprints of dubstep without a shadow of a doubt! Listen to "Help me somebody" and the "The Jezebel Spirit". http://bushofghosts.wmg.com/listen.php

Now this record came out in 81 and for anyone that doesn't know it, its an absolutely pivotal record!!

Never said it was a dubstep tune - I was referring to the beat. But yes - Eno / Byrne pulled that 4/4 dubstep beat off nicely on those tracks.

you could definitely remix this to 140. especially the loop waiting to happen in the first 15 secs.
