when im making a tune ill often do bits of automation as i go along

now when i go to mix down the tune and i alter the track volume levels using the faders, any volume automation i have on the tracks will cause the volume to go back down to the previous level.

is there anyway of mixing down the tune and having the automation follow the changes you make with the volume faders? or do i have to draw in the automation again after i alter the volume?

instead of automating your faders... put a gain on the channelstrip and automate that. good luck

thanks but i already bus my drums / synths etc. im not looking to automate a whole bus. i often use automation more subtly on one hi hat hit for example, which is why automating the volume on a bus wouldn't really benefit me.

i think i'm gonna create a new startup template with gains on each channel strip.

there is a much easier way to fix this problem.

you can use the latch or write settings in the inspector to mix the track live. latch will overwrite any of the previous automation you might have had, whereas write will change the volume when you move the fader but then return to the original level when you let go.

or just open the automation lane and adjust.

you can adjust the whole of the automation up or down by holding down command and clicking on the yellow vertical bar just by the name of the channel in automation mode.
