It isn't shit like punk, though.
The DIY thing I think is true but that might just be because of the size of the scene as it stands. I do feel like there are loads of producers/djs in the crowd at any dubstep thing I go to.
Hope the quality control stays up though.

Didn't punk have a vaguely political thing going on with it too though? Apart from Anti-War Dub I guess, and that's about as political as ebony and ivory really.
Could be the new no-wave though.

grime is like punk, dubstep more like new wave. can't be arsed to explain my reasons why right now. in brief the later one followed the former one, and was less visceral and therefore imo less exciting.

yeah.. dubstep's like punk's bigger, bassier 3rd cousin that it's never met but has seen pictures of.
Regardless sims/diffs, biggupp the DIYers in all genres.

dubstep has always reminded me of hardcore (punk)beatdowns...makes me move me head in the same way...
