FWD and longevity
FWD has been one of a handful of definitive dubstep nights for about eight years now - that has to be pretty close to as long as any single night has held a similar position in its scene. Discuss.
I dunno, I'm not normally into making grand statements like this, but looking at the latest crop of lineups it struck me - FWD got running in 2001 and established itself as the definitive dark garage fairly quickly (I think). It's now 2009 and it's still, along with DMZ, one of the two nights that defines where dubstep is at and where it's going. Eight years of being utterly crucial and it's still showing no signs of slowing up - even as dubstep goes global it seems like heads from Kuala Lumpur to Cape Town still see FWD as a Mecca that you should visit at least once in your life.
Obviously there are other nights that have gone on for longer, but how many of them have spent that long being universally recognised as being basically at the top of their particualr game for the duration of their lifespan?
So yeah, big up Sarah and Ammunition Camp, serious stuff, see you down there on sunday etc.

Furthermore, it has remained a place where DJs can be creative, original and unorthodox. Most other 'significant' dubstep nights I have been to don't seem to provide an appropriate setting to allow a DJ to be really varied within his/her set. Even dmz to an extent demands a relatively steady flow of club bangers.
I like a dirty wobbler, but its better when ther's lots of other things going on as well around it. Thats what u get at fwd - the fill mix up mix up! Hit it pon the weekly, standard.

I don't know if enough credit is given to DaveQ/Joe Nice/ Juakali/Seckle/SA Gel/Incyde and the whole of the dub war family for the huge spirit of openess and progression that they've built. The night in July when you didn't hear any 140bpm going until about 230am (Kode, ras G, etc), Mike Slott, Flying Lotus, Loefah spinning hiphop--
it's definitely one of the premier dubstep nights in the states, and they're doing it always looking forward.
big up boys!

I only ever went to FWD once but had a fuckin' wicked night. Probably one of my fav nights ever. There was a little chav tosspot who annoyed me but aside from that top notch. Sadly I don't think it'll get as good as that for me again as that was pretty early in the dubstep discovery period when it was still fresh and exciting.

Well OP, you got that Mecca thing right...
DMZ / FWD are 2 things I just NEED to do in my life or it will fail. Pretty hard since I'm in Belgium and 16.
And to that reaction saying that you can be creative at FWD, isn't that what dubstep is about? Just doing with the music how you feel, all together with a fat sub bass.
