Started saving for a new Mac, been floating in and out the Apple stores, but lately have started wondering "why"... their current models are only slightly better... almost negligible differences to justify a huge 3k purchase...
So I want to compare:
2.16 Dual Intell, 2G RAM
What are you guys working with?

was running an AthlonXP 2400+ (clocks about 1.8ghz) 2gb ram
so I decided to swap out processors last night and I stabbed my motherboard DEAD
but I had already begun purchasing stuff for my next system
Have: 4gb ddr2 ram / 350gb Sata Drive
Need: Intel Pentium Dual Core 3ghz, Intel Mboard, CPU fan
a good homie is hopefully sending that via UPS soon

Why not go down the Hackintosh route on a dual hdd/dual boot set up? Best of both worlds surely?
Also, to whoever mentioned TinyXP: have you had a troubles with it, anything stop working (ie wireless, soundcards, etc), and can I just boot it off the disc or a flash drive, or does it have to be installed over the top of a clean formatted hdd? I've got an old laptop which I may dust off and donate to this experiment...

Dual core 3.2Ghz Pentium, 4gb ram, 200gb hd, xp sp3, emu 1616m.
I'm well happy with it tbh. I won't be looking to upgrade my rig or os until programs require ai to run!
I do have a 250gb hd for storage and backup purposes though.

There is are only two reasons to buy a Mac.
The first is to feel good about your consumer gullibility, the second is to use Logic. Assuming you're thinking about using Logic, that's one hell of an expensive program purchase!!!
I guess it could be likened to buying a Porshe. Fun, sexy (apparently), and totally OTT for running down the shop in...!

Try Avira or Avast! for free instead, and use Malwarebytes for deep periodical scans. I bet you're swimming in shit that Norton let slip through the net for which privilage you have to pay, pfft. Fuck Norton with big sticks or dynamite.

Everyone I know, who has Vista has some kind of issues with it, besides it wastes RAM, which could be used for anything else or kept free for faster computing. A lot of settings cannot be changed that can be in XP, the "user friendlyness" is just plain annoying, etc.
EDIT: forgot to mention compatability issues, a lot of things that run in XP, won't in Vista.
