Big Chill Herbage?

Post by kenny_bubb » Tue Mar 17, 2009 8:09 pm

Making my debut at the Big Chill in August for (hopefully) a dubstep line-up to rival last year's and to marvel at Orbital's return.

What's the attitude towards smoking herbs?

Many thanks.

ha ha the big chill is a shitty family orientated festy where everyone goes to sit down and thrown upon anyone having fun. if you manange to avoid getting your herb confiscated by security during one of the many searches you will encounter then you can get away with it like any other festy but be prepared for some hardcore being throwned at

Nah, not at all. i went to big chill last year and it was sick. Last year Caspa and Rusko and Benga played the sunday night and it was mental. Just full of fucked up hippies going for it haha.

Although there are quite a few familys there, there is differnt activitys for the kids to get on with so you dont really notice that they are there. And at night its pretty mad.

As for drugs, they are well chilled about people taking drugs there, a security guard even help us to find shrooms

Its a sick festival, definatly going again this year, and definatly hoping for a bigger dubstep line up then the last.

you obviosuly haven't got a fuckin clue about BC
you haven't seen Skream, Mala & Loefah killin it there two yrs ago

or massive 10K crowd in a valley skanking big time to guys like Mr. Scruff or bands like Cymande..

as for herbs you can smoke the fuck out of everythin, it's a vast space, security is only around for protecting belongings on dense camping spaces and generally if the weather is good it pisses on anything else going on in the summer in the UK if you ask me.

so yes, whoever is going there for the first time be prepared for a reaaaaaaally cool and eclectic but hectic weekend... was there in 07'. memorable is an understatement

What waft is this?? The Big Chill is unreal! I think having a good range of people there really adds to the atmosphere. Security seemed to be better than any other festival I've been to aswell.

Not a problem. The festival would be pretty badly named if you couldn't do that. I wouldn't go blowing smoke in a security guards face (unless its requested) but apart from that its all good.

Warp films and Film4 shooting an audience participation zombie movie over the four days of the festival. Should be interesting ...

nah big chill is good, was working on a commission there last year, didnt think id particularly enjoy it but the lineup was suprisingly good, lots of variety and plenty of dubstep and the location was sick.

highlights included;

dusk and blackdown to playing a set at lunchtime whilst playing mario kart on my ds in the sun.

flying lotus

bengas set with this massive wooden building on fire behind everyone.

definitely up for going this year :)

Axel is so right caspa and rusko absoultly killed the place and one of the best atmospheres aswell. Also just to finish of the perfect weekend we got sold a 1/4 for £1.50 :D

The big chill is totally amazing every time.

As for smoking up its a-ok as far as ive seen. In fact last year one of the security guards gave me some green after I gave him a packet of chewing gum! They're more worried about alcohol getting into the main festie site, but even that is managable.

lol that sounds like the half truth based ramblings of someone who has never been to the big chill :)

Yeah the whole family thing is a bit weird, and youve just got to block out the lawyers-by-week/pink-winged-fairy-fucking goblins by weekend or some shit.

But the music is amazing, every time. Literally nuff said. Unless youre someone who can't have fun without being an absoloute mess, its a sick festival.

Oh, and I have no idea where youve gotten this idea of high security from?! Literally the most chilling security ive ever seen at a festival (far, FAR more relaxed that glade/bloc...) never known anyone to have anything confisicated there or anything (from 5/6 years of going with normally like 10-20 people)

big boy festival :D

Oh, but the stages shut too early...which is the whole family thing

big chill rocks it. Been the last 2 years and its was sick, '07 was best with the dub shack and the friggin strong rum!!!
Security are pretty relaxed there although I did see some drunk kid get Pwned by a steward.
Last year it tagged up with some proper hippy fest, full of naked people and drum circles and shit.
UK festivals need to sort out how much they're charging tho!

sick festival and was pretty slack on the drugs front.

smoking herb is not a problem but if you plan to get anything else dont buy in there as there were tons of guys last year selling plaster paris pills and fake bags of md, coke and ket. not that i or any of my friends would buy any of those horrible things.

big festival.
