Just wondering if there is a sub classification for all the different styles of dubstep. I've noticed there are many different styles and sounds, like dark, techy, reggae, hip hop, etc. Would we just call them by that, or are there actaul names? For example, in dnb there is dark side, ragga, jump up, tech step, hard step, liquid, neurofunk, etc.

So do we just go on calling it "techy dubstep," "hip hop-like dubstep," "Glitchy Dubstep?"

I agree. that is pretty shitty with DnB. I think a good mix up in a night is essential. Not only dj/producers sets, but also mixing it up in the set itself. However I dont think that giving different styles of dubstep a classification would make promoters cater to specific subclasses. I mean we already have the subclasses there and we are all aware of them. Why cant we just give them names?

The same thing happened with Techno and House 20 years ago and Jazz/Blues 100 years ago even, it's completely pointless this over classification/subdivisionisation. A little clue here and there's alright, but within moderation.

If relabelling every sound you hear makes you feel more secure in the knowledge that you're listening to the 'Hip Now Sound' then by all means knock yourself out, but do shut up trying to break things down to their most pointless iotas ffs

Have a wank if you can't put your energies into anything more productive than trying to deconstruct something that ain't broke!

the longer we get without being put in to classes or genres of dubstep the better, at the moment its just DUBSTEP and we should keep it like that!
fair enough there are tunes that you could say sound similar in sound but when it gets to the point of expecting an artist to produce that sound, thats when people get slated for experimenting...and where would we be without experimentation? without dubstep!!! thats where!

this would clearly be a misstep haha

allow the the labels! why is there a need to categorise every thing? its music and its there to enjoy! no need for makin charts of sub genres and all that on excel! why waste the time do some thing better like making music or raving! thats what i believe any ways

Cool. I'm with you all. I was just asking for my own knowlege. Wasn't trying to deconstruct anything. I just didn't want to be talking about some hip hop sounding dubstep and have somebody look at me strange and say... "uh, you mean "dub-hop,"" or something like that.

Edit: just getting my terms straight. :;):

makes it easier to find a specific sound which is more convenient for djs and fans of a specific style
anyone scared of labeling is jokes anyways
just make whatever you feel like and leave it to someone else to label it
